Culture, tourism week invites visitors to Phu Yen province <div> <div><span>A dance performance at the opening ceremony of the Phu Yen Culture-Tourism Week 2019 in Tuy Hoa city on March 30 (Photo: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Phu Yen (VNA)</strong> – A range of activities introducing the quintessence of central Phu Yen province are awaiting visitors at a culture and tourism week that opened in Tuy Hoa city on March 30.</p> <p>Outstanding events of the week include a tourism, culinary and speciality fair; a kite flying festival; a festival of bai choi singing – part of the UNESCO-recognised intangible cultural heritage; a street music festival; and an exclusive festival of Phu Yen’s cuisine.</p> <p>Notably, the tourism, culinary and speciality fair will feature 100 booths, introducing delicacies of 10 provinces and cities nationwide.</p> <p>Most of the activities will take place in Tuy Hoa city and Dong Hoa district.</p> <p>Vice Chairman of the Phu Yen People’s Committee Phan Dinh Phung said the week is a series of activities on the threshold of many big holidays of Vietnam and the province. It also marks the start of the tourist season in Phu Yen.</p> <p>The week will offer visitors chances to set foot in many famous local landscapes like Xuan Dai Bay, Da Dia Cliffs, Bai Mon (Mon Beach), Mui Dien (Dien Cape), and Nhan Tower.</p> <p>They can experience the uniqueness of local dishes and drinks. PhD in psychology quits high-pay job to open museum <div> <div>Psychologist Tran Ngoc Dung left the job at a joint venture company on market research to come back the central province of Binh Thuan, his hometown, to open a museum of fish sauce- a familiar sauce for Vietnamese people.</div> <div>Just in two years, psychologist Dung was successful in building a cultural tourist site which reproduces life, produce and cultural characteristics of a fishing village 300 years ago xưa cách đây hơn 300 năm.</div> <div>Being a valedictorian of University of Economic in Ho Chi Minh City in 1993, psychologist Dung was one of 48 excellent students countrywide receiving scholarships to pursue studying in Australia.</div> <div>After graduating Business Management major in Australia, the young man continued his pursuit of learning in France where he took PhD in psychology.</div> <div>After ten year learning abroad, he decided to return Vietnam as he cooperated with a Japanese friend to open a marketing research company.</div> <div>He said despite his high-paid job at the time in the big city, he was haunted by salty sensation of fish and yellowish color of fish sauce bowl when returning his hometown in Phan Thiet city in Binh Thuan province. Therefore, whenever he was free, he trekked to a 300-year – old fishing village to find old items of making fish sauce in giant fish sauce household producers.</div> <div>However, time flies and consumers’ taste has changed little by little, these giant fish sauce household producers disappeared and ancient production items have been replaced by other ones made by easy-to-find materials. Living in many countries, he yearned to do something to keep Phan Thiet’s old culture.</div> <div>After questioning many times that what he should do to keep the old culture of fishing village in Phan Thiet, the idea of setting up a museum where both keeps traditional culture and a place that tourists can visit to understand more about the old profession.</div> <div>In 2017, he decided to sell all his shares in the company in Ho Chi Minh City and then returned Phan Thiet for his plan of opening a museum despite of friends’ and relatives’ discouragement.</div> <div>People’s Committee of Binh Thuan Province has given the green light to his plan of setting up a museum of fish sauce and facilitated it.</div> <div>Dung made contacted with local researchers and ancient collectors in Phan Thiet to have more exhibits . Hundreds of old items and devices including vats, urns, jars, mugs, sticks, tents, giant households in making fish sauce as well as document of the career have been exhibited in the new museum located in a vast land in Phu Hai Commune, which is famous for its traditional fish sauce making profession.</div> <div>He has used different methods of increasing interaction between the museum and visitors as ways to attract visitors and eliminate tediousness.</div> <div>Specifically, one day, the author and a group of visitor dropped by the museum. Tourists were gathering in a movie room watching a documentary film about history of a traditional fishing village in Phan Thiet. Some young men murmured that they have known for the very first time that fish sauce is made elaborately.</div> <div>Museum guide led visitors to next room where exhibits hundreds of production items of fish sauce in the old days. Here, visitors can find out more information of ingredients, recipe and devices of making fish which forefather had used.</div> <div>Interestingly, visitors can have chance to distinguish pure and mixed fish sauce as per forefathers’ ways. One of visitors, Nguyen Huy Toan, hailing from Ho Chi Minh City was holding some rice leftovers dropping in a bowl of fish sauce. The female guide was explaining that according to old people’s experience, if rice leftovers float in fish sauce bowl, fish sauce is pure kind and vice versa.</div> <div>Not only establishing the special museum- the first of its kind in the country, psychologist Dung also restore a renowned fish sauce of a time. The renowned fish sauce was made 300 years ago and consumed widely across the country.</div> <div>Director of Binh Thuan province’s Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism Ngo Minh Chinh lauded Dung who had lived many places in the world but he still loves his hometown and local culture. Strawberry farm in Hanoi – evidence of potential farm tourism <div> <div> <div><span>Agriculture students have taken part-time jobs at the strawberry farm (Photo: VNA)</span></div> </div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Hanoi (VNS/VNA) –</strong> The west bank of the Hong (Red) River in Hanoi’s Tay Ho district is famous for its traditional flower villages – Tu Lien, Nhat Tan, Quang An and Phu Thuong. <p>Trees used to celebrate the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday such as the peach trees grown in Nhat Tan and kumquat trees grown in Tu Lien are said to be the best in town.</p> <p>For over a decade, flower farms have been open for visitors who want to enjoy the spectacle, take photos or just breathe the fresh air in the otherwise crowded city.</p> <p> “That is the reason why we opened a strawberry farm at the heart of Nhat Tan flower village,” Nguyen An Phuong, sales manager at Chimi Farm Hanoi, said.</p> <p>The 3,000 sq.m strawberry farm opened last December and for the last few months, it has attracted young people and families looking for a new farming experience in the city.</p> <p>The first crop of the temperate fruit grown by Chimi Farm Hanoi is in the process of being harvested.</p> <p>The farm supplies strawberries for stores and supermarkets in the city, and they’re also available for visitors.</p> <p>Phuong said that visitors can learn how to nurse the strawberry plants, pick fruit and make strawberry yogurt and other drinks. “They can enjoy the drinks at the cafe on the farm,” Phuong added.</p> <p>“Taking photos is free of charge. You pay for the fruit you pick and the drinks,” Phuong said.</p> <p>It’s about 350,000 VND (15 USD) per kilo of strawberries picked at the farm.</p> <p>The farm also offers young plants for 40,000 VND with instructions on how to tend to them.</p> <p>Hoang Phuong Thao from Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem district said her children really enjoyed the farm.</p> <p>“They got excited about looking for ripe red strawberries and picking them,” Thao said, adding that the kids burst into laughter whenever they found an odd-shaped fruit or a worm under the leaves.</p> <p>“The children and I had a good time at the farm as they got to play outdoors and get closer to nature,” Thao said.</p> <p>She said they would visit the farm again because it was close to their house.</p> <p>Phuong said the excitement had sparked an idea about farming tourism.</p> <p>He said he had travelled a lot with friends and enjoyed great experiences during trips across Vietnam, one of the best of which was picking strawberries at farms in the Central Highland city of Da Lat.</p> <p>“A friend of mine, Vu Van Luc, has always dreamed about starting a strawberry farm since he was a student at the National Economics University,” Phuong said.</p> <p>After graduating in 2013, Luc went to Da Lat to learn about strawberry farming.</p> <p>Luc and two other friends were the first to inspire Phuong to start a strawberry farm.</p> <p>After learning about the farm tour model as well as farming techniques, Phuong said they decided to bring the fruit to his northern province of Son La as the weather there is similar to Da Lat.</p> <p>“But it was not easy. Most of the 4,000 sq.m of strawberries that Luc planted in Son La’s Moc Chau Plateau in 2014 died,” Phuong said, forcing them to improve their technique and soil so the plants could adapt better in the northern province.</p> <p>In 2015, Luc opened Chimi Farm covering one hectare in Ban Ang hamlet, Dong Sang commune, Moc Chau town. The farm was expanded to 6ha last year, offering both fruit and tourism services.</p> <p>“Chimi Farm Hanoi is a branch of Chimi Farm Moc Chau, which was established to promote Chimi Farm’s strawberries, making the fruit more accessible to consumers in Hanoi and neighbouring provinces,” Phuong said.</p> <p>Many visitors to Chimi Farm Moc Chau asked if they could find a similar farm in Hanoi and we thought, “Why not?”</p> <p>“Opening a strawberry farm in Hanoi was a challenge for us,” Phuong said, adding that they had to study the weather, soil and techniques to ensure the plants could adapt.</p> <p>Winter and spring in Hanoi when the temperature hit 14-28 degrees Celsius are good for strawberries. The plants produce fruit in hot weather. It takes about 2.5 -3 months for the fruit to grow, ripen and be harvested. Vietnam’s traditional dish, tourist destinations introduced in Canada <div> <div><span>Foreign friends enjoy Vietnamese traditional disk of Nem ran (crispy spring rolls) (Photo: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Ottawa (VNA)</strong> – Nem ran (crispy spring rolls), which has been listed among the top 10 best dishes by CNN Travel, has been introduced to foreign friends during the ASEAN Happy Hour programme as part of the Ottawa Travel and Vacation Show in Canada.</p> <p>Together with the traditional dish, the Vietnamese Embassy in Canada gave visitors an insight of thousand-year-old Hanoi city, the beauty of the UNESCO-recognised World Heritage Sites of Ha Long Bay and Phong Nha-Ke Bang.</p> <p>This year, the Vietnamese booth became a highlight of the event, drawing a large number of visitors.  </p> <p>Along with Vietnamese cuisine, the ASEAN Happy Hour, held by the ASEAN Committee in Ottawa, also highlighted unique dishes of Brunei, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Thailand.</p> <p>The Ottawa Travel and Vacation Show, took place on March 30 and 31, had more than 200 booths organized by more than 50 countries around the world.</p> <p>2018 was a successful year for Canada’s tourism sector with 21.13 million tourists visiting the country in the year. Tourism created 745,300 jobs in Canada, and contributed about 102.5 billion CAD (76.78 billion USD) to the country’s economy.</p> <p>Meanwhile, Vietnam ranked third in the top 10 countries with the fastest growth in the number of foreign tourists in 2018. However, the number of Canadian tourists to Vietnam has stayed modest at over 138,200 in 2017 and 104,057 in the eight first months of 2018.</p> <p>According to Jay Johnson, Sales and Marketing Director of Come&Go Vietnam, Vietnam and Canada boast high potential for cooperation in tourism. Canadian people consider Vietnam as a safe destination to visit, he said.</p> <p>The Vietnam-Canada relationship has been growing, while the 250,000-strong Vietnamese community in the country is an important force helping foster the friendship between the two countries, he noted. The Temple was built in the 15th century as a place to conduct examinations.</p> <p>In the 16th century, Mao Dien became the examination site for the whole region and a training center for scholars from all over Vietnam. Hai Duong province had the first 12 doctors and 600 of Vietnam’s total 3,000 Confucian laureates of the old system.</p> <p>It a custom for Hai Duong residents to visit Mao Dien Temple of Literature to pay tribute to the ancient sages.</p> <p>A local man named Tran Van Tuan said, “This temple, which honors great scholars, attracts pilgrims from Hai Duong and other nearby localities. Hai Duong people are proud of their learning tradition. My family comes to Mao Dien at the beginning of each year to inspire in the children a passion for learning.”</p> <p>With a scale second only to Hanoi’s Temple of Literature, the 36,000-square-meter complex has an architecture similar to Vietnam’s pagodas and temples. Moc Chau Plateau has a temperate climate, topography, and soil suitable for growing tea.</p> <p>Heart-shaped tea hills have become attractive tourist attractions, drawing a lot of visitors, especially young people. Visitors can admire immense green tea plots and rent or buy the colorful traditional costumes of local ethnic groups for photos.</p> <p>In addition to the immense tea fields and flower gardens, there are other interesting spots to visit in Moc Chau, according to Nguyen Nhat Lam, Director of the Viettrip Travel Company.</p> <p>“Other tourist attractions in Moc Chau include Doi (Bat) Cave and Dai Yem waterfall. Backpackers are also interested in the Long Sap border gate, which leads them through large maize fields and ethnic villages where locals are still practicing their traditional culture,” Lam said.</p> <p>Delicious dishes in Moc Chau are made of buffalo or cow. One of the favorite dishes here is “tinh top” which is made of brook fish seasoned with “cham cheo”, a typical spice of ethnic people in northern Vietnam.</p> <p>Visitors to Moc Chau have many accommodation options, according to Mr. Lam.</p> <p>“Depending on the size and interests of each travel group, tourists can choose to stay at hotels in downtown Moc Chau or in stilt houses in Ang village, where they can also enjoy BBQ and a campfire. Locals have upgraded traditional stilt houses into communal guest houses, planted flowers and vegetables, and organized tours.</p> <p>Ha Van Quyet, a provider of a community-based tourism service in Ang village, said, “Most tourists to Moc Chau love the homestay service, the beautiful nature, and the clean farm produce. They want to experience in farming with the locals. So we have built bungalows on the hills near our cultivated land. This is, I think, the most effective marketing method.”</p> <p>The Thai minority people living in Ang village are still making their traditional handicrafts, including weaving and embroidery, and teach visitors these crafts.</p> <p>A trip is not complete without tasting the local cuisine: a veal dish in a pan, a bowl of taro soup, and home-grown vegetables. Lo Thi Luong says the most typical dish of the Thai people is grilled moss taken from the brooks.</p> <p>She said, “We take out all the grit and clean the moss with water. Then we squeeze and dry the moss. We season it with garlic, ginger, onion, and herbs. The weather here is similar to that of Dalat in the Central Highlands. Ang village has become more beautiful and tourism service has improved since the last time I was here. The villagers are so friendly. All gave me a great impression of Moc Chau.”</p> <p>Let’s continue on to another destination in Moc Chau that visitors pass on their way from the central town to Ang homestay village. The cave entrance can only be reached by climbing 240 steps. Once you’re inside, the impressive 6,000-square-meter limestone cave overwhelms you.</p> <p>Climbing the mountain while listening to distant birds and gushing streams is a relaxing experience.  </p> <div> <table> <tbody> <tr> <td></td> </tr> <tr> <td><em><span>The cave’s entrance looks like a dragon’s mouth.</span></em></td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </div> <p>Lu Thi Hong Mai, one of the first Ang villagers to provide tourism services, says the Thai originally called this cave “Sa Lai”, which means “water” in their language. People later gave it the name “Doi” as there are flocks of bats living inside the cave.</p> <p>“Legend has it that the God of Hell once sent his troops to arrest a very beautiful lady who was bringing rice to her father. The father waited until noon but never saw his daughter so he told her lover something had happened to her. The man fought the God of Hell (also called the Naga) through Doi cave and chased the Naga to Ang village, where he triumphed and took his beautiful lover back,” Mai explained.</p> <p>The tour guide is recounting another legend about the formation of the cave. A dragon flying to the East Sea was enchanted by the beauty of this land and forgot all about the East Sea.</p> <p>He landed and made this mountain range his home, turning the area into a magical landscape of mysterious colors: white as crystals in the morning, blue as sapphires at midday, pink as rubies in the afternoon, deep purple in the twilight.</p> <p>On the day the dragon finally left the mountain range, he dropped seven jades from his mouth and turned them into mountains to thank the land and people of Moc Chau. From the ceiling of the cave hang twinkling seven-colour stalactites, some of them 20 meters long. They look like roots of an ancient banyan-tree. Others look like Buddha, elephant, tiger, lion, eagle, and masses of cloud.</p> <p>In the middle of the cave is the magnificent palace of a princess. On the cupola of the cave are many small rocky holes which teem with bats. Drops of water drip from the stalactites, creating a melodious sound.</p> <p>A couple from Hoa Binh province are delighted by the beauty of Doi cave: “There are many sparkling stalactites and the echoing sound of nearby streams. The cave is beautiful. This cave is magnificent and has made a big impression on me.”</p> <p>The Government recently approved a plan to create a Moc Chau national tourist site until 2030, containing a resort, an ecotourism center, and an entertainment center, spanning 200,000 ha in the two districts of Moc Chau and Van Ho. Built in the heart of vast green spaces including rice fields and a large garden of fruit and flowers, the cottage delights tourists with its charm as soon as they arrive, as it did for the family of Olivier Le Doussal, who are on the two-day-one-night tour. </p> <p>“It feels very good here,” Oliver said, “I’m impressed by the vitality of the natural environment. There is always the accompanying sounds of chickens, birds, or cows in the Vietnamese countryside. It’s not like home. All the houses have the typical architecture of the Red River Delta countryside of yesteryear with the roof covered with Yin-Yang tiles, and the walls, doors, and columns made of wood.</p> <p>They are decorated with antique furniture that features traditional sculptures, such as lotuses, peach blossoms, phoenixes, and dragons. Oliver’s children, Noemi and Gabriel, seem to be obsessed with the antique objects at the homestay. </p> <p><i> </i>“There is a very old phone that has two parts, one where we can listen to people speak, and another where we talk. I’ve never seen a phone like this before”, said Noemi. </p> <p>“There is a wardrobe with many different kinds of Vietnamese traditional clothes. So all of us put them on and took pictures”, said Gabriel.</p> <p>Among the highlights of the homestay is a one-of-a-kind restaurant. Nguyen Khanh Tung, the Moon Garden’s manager, said “Actually it’s an old Catholic church. Surprising, isn’t it? A certificate of apprenticeship will be given to them at the end of the course. A modest quantity will help you roll well. We must squeeze and fold the paper carefully so that the roll looks good,” she said.</p> <p>Apart from the cooking class, Moon Garden’s two-day-one-night tours also offer customers cycling trips to tourist attractions and some farm activities. If they want to experience the life of a farmer, the next morning, after a 15-minute gym class and a cup of green tea with honey and ginger, they can take a stroll around Ky Son village.”</p> <p>After a 12-kilometer ride, the De Doussal family are excited about what they have seen on the trip. </p> <p>“We visited Mia Pagoda, which was beautiful,” said Celine, “We went for a walk in the village and saw rice paddies, chickens, cows, dogs, and buffaloes.”</p> <p>Gabriel continued “Yes yes, there are a lot of animals. The people are very nice. If the charter route proves convenient, the number of passengers will increase.</p> <p>“We expect we will fly the first charter flight in June. Honestly, at the time (2007) we did not see the potential of this land. In reality, numerous large-scale investors faced difficulties in maintaining their operations because the tourism season only lasted for three months and there was a painful lack of entertainment facilities. Besides, the terrain was treacherous, making it difficult to build the cable car system.</p> <p>However, the determination of the city’s leaders and the support from the locals was constant motivation for us to develop the projects. During the construction process, the city provided numerous favourable conditions and incentives for Sun Group. We saw the determination of the city, and were moved to invest in earnest.</p> <p>Besides, several years later, during a trip to Cyprus we were disappointed that the scenery, which we saw was nothing special, just some sand and gravel, yet we had to pay massive amounts of money for a holiday there. Meanwhile, with its raw natural beauty, Vietnam is far more worthy to be known around the world. We are aware that tourism is not only an economic sector but also a tool to promote the image of the country. Thus, after that tour, we decided to invest in the tourism sector in Vietnam.</p> <h2><em><b>When did Sun Group begin to be optimistic about Ba Na Hills?</b></em></h2> <p>The time when we were building the cable car was a challenging period. The terrain was so rough that technology could not deal with all of the problems. The living conditions for workers and foreign experts were poor, but all of them were driven to perform their tasks. Notably, at the opening ceremony, a five-coloured cloud appeared, opening the beauty of the heavens in front of our eyes. We saw happiness in workers’ eyes.</p> <h2><em><b>How do you evaluate the project after ten years?</b></em></h2> <p>I am proud that Ba Na Hills became a must-see destination for tourists visiting Danang. Even foreign investors who do not even know Sun Group know of Ba Na Hills. My name was attached to this project, and many of our partners saved me as “Truong Ba Na” on their phones.</p> <p>Projects like Ba Na Hills, which were invested methodically, contributed to changing Danang’s vista. When we started to invest here, the light system was turned off at 9 PM and there were no coastal roads and what services were available were rather poor. Danang was only considered a transshipment area for tourists who wanted to visit Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam provinces. However, since then, Danang has become the centre of tourism in Southeast Asia.</p> <p>In my opinion, developing the tourism sector not only brings benefits to locals but also contributes to the development of other sectors.</p> <p>According to the plan, the total registered capital for Ba Na Hills was VND8 trillion ($347.8 million), however, we are not stopping here. I think that it is just the starting point because the visitor number at Ba Na Hills is still much lower than at other entertainment projects of similar scale on the world. With the current growth momentum of tourism in Vietnam and Danang, Ba Na Hills have great development potential. We will continue to invest in this project.</p> <h2><em><b>What are Sun Group’s expectations for Ba Na Hills and other projects?</b></em></h2> <p>We expect to welcome the 15 millionth tourist to Ba Na Hills. Over 4.5 million foreigners visit Vietnam in Q1 <div> <div><span>Foreign visitors to Hanoi (Photo: VNA)</span></div> <p><strong>Hanoi (VNA)</strong> – Over 4.5 million foreigners are estimated to visit Vietnam in the first three months of this year, a rise of 7 percent year on year, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) said on March 29.</p> <p>The foreign visitors coming by air and by road rose 4.5 percent and 26.2 percent year on year, while those entering by sea declined by 37.4 percent.</p> <p>The visitors hailing from Asian markets recorded an increase of 7.5 percent year on year, said the VNAT under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.</p> <p>Up to 1.2 million Chinese people spent holidays in Vietnam in the reviewed time, accounting to 37.8 percent of the total Asian visitors. (Photo: vntrip360.com)</span></div> <p><strong>Hanoi (VNA)</strong> – A conference held on March 28 in the framework of the Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) sought solutions to develop tourism in the context of Industry 4.0.</p> <p>Through the newly launched VNGuide app and the website VnTrip360.com, tourists can enjoy virtual trips to beauty spots in Vietnam such as Quan Su Pagoda, Tran Quoc Pagoda (Hanoi) and the Cu Chi Tunnels (Ho Chi Minh City).</p> <p>And, more destinations in the country are going to be digitalised to provide different experiences for travellers and help introduce Vietnamese tourism to the world.</p> <p>Jason Lusk, director of the Mekong Innovative Startups in Tourism (MIST), consultant to the Asian Development Bank, said it was a great step forward for innovation in the Vietnamese tourism industry.</p> <p>“The Fourth Industrial Revolution brings many opportunities for Vietnam’s travel tech start-ups as well as the chance for Vietnamese tourism to boom,” he said.</p> <p>Ha Van Sieu, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration (VNAT), said Industry 4.0 impacted all fields, including tourism.</p> <p>“It’s a time for us to review the process of using technology in the tourism industry,” he said.<br /> Beside digitalising destinations with VR technology, travel enterprises are also using apps to manage hotels, resorts and customer experiences.  </p> <p>Nguyen Chi Thanh, director of Toan Dung Media Company, the developer of VNGuide app, said it was time to make the term “smart tourism” popular.</p> <p>“With 3D scanning technology, we can give tourists an overview of the destinations before they arrive, they can zoom in and out of the sites, and discover every corner,” he said.</p> <p>“We have some difficulties such as the high cost of 3D technology and a lack of human resources to manage this technology.”</p> <p>Thanh suggested that managers should be trained on VR technology so they can instruct travellers how to use the devices.</p> <p>On the day, VNAT also launched a contest for start-ups in tourism development.</p> <p>The initiatives should focus on accommodation, restaurants and transport.</p> <p>The contest will run until June to seek ideas on how to use technology to develop tourism.</p> <p>The VITM 2019 is the largest of its kind, attracting 720 businesses and tourism promotion agencies from 27 countries and territories worldwide as well as 47 Vietnamese cities and provinces. In particular, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Peru joined the event for the first time.</p> <p>The event is expected to draw up to 85,000 visitors. Vietnam International Travel Mart 2019 kicks off in Hanoi <div> <div> <div><span>At the event (Source: VNA)</span></div> </div> <div><strong>Hanoi (VNA)</strong> – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, head of the state steering committee for tourism, and other officials cut the ribbon to open the Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) 2019, in Hanoi on March 27.  <p>Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien said Vietnam is striving to welcome at least 18 million foreign tourists and serve over 85 million domestic holidaymakers, earning more than 700 trillion VND (30 billion USD) in revenue this year. </p> <p>Apart from green, home-stay and resort tourism services, Thien suggested the tourism sector fully tap modern technology and local advantages to meet tourists’ demands, thus turning Vietnam into an attractive destination in the region. </p> <p>Themed “Green Tourism”, the VITM 2019 afforded domestic and foreign travel agencies a chance to discuss future business opportunities as well as introduce new destinations and products to the public. </p> <p>Vu The Binh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association (VTA) and head of the VITM 2019 organising board, said 2019 is the seventh year the VTA has held the VITM under the direction of the Prime Minister and a project approved by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. </p> <p>The VITM 2019 is the largest of its kind, attracting 720 businesses and tourism promotion agencies from 27 countries and territories worldwide as well as 47 Vietnamese cities and provinces. Vietnamese airlines offer promotions at VITM <div> <div> <div><span>National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and budget airline Jetstar Pacific will launch various promotional programmes at the Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) 2019 (Photo: VNA)</span></div> </div> <div><strong>Hanoi (VNA) –</strong> National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and budget airline Jetstar Pacific will launch various promotional programmes at the Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) 2019, which will take place from March 27-30. <p>Vietnam Airlines on March 25 said it will present 4,000 promotional codes for visitors who purchase online tickets at the event. </p> <p>The carrier is set to offer discounts of up to 50 percent for domestic and 30 percent for international flights to Australia, Asian and European nations.</p> <p>Other promotions will be introduced at the event such as weekend sales, among others.</p> <p>Meanwhile, Jetstar Pacific will launch 11,000 cheap tickets for domestic and international flights. The prices will start at 11,000 VND (about 0.5 USD), excluding taxes and fees.</p> <p>The two airlines will also work with travel agencies to introduce tour packages with special prices as well as their products and services for visitors of the VITM.</p> <p>During the event, Jetstar Pacific will launch a programme to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which encourages passengers to donate a sum ranging from 8,000 to 30,000 VND per ticket.
