Since Saturday, the island has seen strong winds and heavy rain resulting from a cold spell.

Sa Ky Port Management Board said yesterday that they had halted the operation of passenger boats on the Sa Ky–Ly Son route, noting that traffic was expected to resume in three to five days.

Vice Chairwoman of Ly Son Island District Pham Thi Huong said the local authority had called on hotels and inns to offer 10 per cent discounts to tourists and had demanded tighter controls on operating boats.

She said authorities would seek assistance from the concerned agencies if the weather became more severe, especially while people attempt to return home for the upcoming Tet holidays.
