(VOV) – The number of international visitors travelling to Vietnam climbed 16% year-on-year to 649,009 for the month of October, according to the latest figures of the General Statistics Office (GSO).
“The VISA waiver program contributed significantly to the bump in the numbers,” the GSO said, adding it has also resulted in travellers spending more on average per day and staying longer.
The GSO reported that almost three-fourths of the increase resulted from passengers arriving in the country by air.
Key markets experiencing an uptick in visitors included the Republic of Korea (up 31%) Hong Kong (up 28%) and Singapore (up 17%).
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism’s recent launch of a marketing campaign in France, Germany, Spain, and Belarus, when combined with Visa waivers is expected to result in increased numbers of future visitors.
