However, the number of foreign visitors to Vietnam in the first ten months of this year is estimated at more than 6.3 million, down by 4.1 % from the same period last year.
The inflow of visitors from the Republic of Korea (RoK) recorded the highest increase at 30.7%. This was followed by Hong Kong (China) (28%), Singapore (16.9%), Taiwan (China) (10.2%), Spain (9.8%), Finland (9.1%), the US (7.9%), Italy (7%), the Netherlands and Malaysia (4.8%).
During the first ten months of the year, Vietnam’s tourism sector also served 50.8 million domestic tourists, earning a total revenue of VND294.27 trillion, up 3.1% compared to the same period last year.
Currently, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is collaborating with relevant agencies and localities to actively launch and implement tourism stimulus programmes to attract more tourists from five Western Europe countries – Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy – and Belarus to Vietnam.
Under the programme, the tourism sector will offer new services at a 20-30% discount in price as well as encourage localities and enterprises to build appropriate products, including those connecting nations aiming to attract tourists visiting surrounding countries.
The programme is expected to contribute to promoting the increase in tourism from the Western Europe market and Belarus from the beginning of 2016.
The country’s tourism sector also set a target of attracting 1.1 million visitors from Western European countries during the 2016-2018 period, a rise of 50% over this year.
