Saigon Sail Co. Ltd. is waiting for approval from the HCMC Department of Transport to resume a rowboat tour along Nhieu Loc Canal as its temporary license expired last month.
Phan Xuan Anh, chairman of Saigon Sail, told the Daily on Wednesday that the company had to halt the canal tours from Thi Nghe Bridge linking districts 1 and Binh Thanh and Candaransi Pagoda in District 3 on September 13 after 10 days of operation.
Earlier, the HCMC Department of Transport awarded Saigon Sail a temporary license to launch the tour to meet special requests and introduce the city’s river tour to visitors at the International Travel Expo (ITE) 2015 in HCMC last month.
Then, Saigon Sail had to call off the canal tour to do some paperwork for a new license. Anh expected the company would resume the tour next week as the department pledged to complete procedures for the new license on October 2.
Saigon Sail plans to put 10 more boats in operation by the middle of October, bringing the total number of rowboats on the route to 22. The combined capacity of these boats is over 100 guests but Anh said the tour would ensure economic efficiency when there are about 200 passengers per day.
To ensure hygiene for guests, Saigon Sail has spent around VND100 million (US$4,449) installing garbage collection devices on the Nhieu Loc Canal.
The company also plans a motorboat tour from Nha Rong Wharf in downtown HCMC to Binh Dong Berth in District 8.
