Speaker of the Singaporean Parliament Halimah Yacob
NDO – Speaker of the Singaporean Parliament Halimah Yacob has started her official visit to Vietnam from April 2 to 4 at the invitation of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.
She is accompanied by members of parliament Zainal Bin Sapari, Ang Wei Neng and Benedict Tan, Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Ng Teck Hean and a number of senior officials of the Singaporean Parliament.
Born in 1954, Mdm Halimah Yacob received her Bachelor of Law at the National University of Singapore in 1978 and Master of Law in 2001. She was a member of parliament for the Jurong GRC from November 2001 to May 2011. She was Minister of Community Development, Youth and Sports from May 2011 to October 2012 and Minister of Social and Family Development from November 2012 to January 2013.
She was member of the Standing Orders Committee and Special Select Committee on Nominations for Appointment as Nominated Members of Parliament of the 10th Parliament. She also held the chairmanship of the Committee of Privileges, Public Petitions Committee and Standing Orders Committee of the 12th Parliament.
