Creating three clear chances to face goalkeeper Albalooshi within the first 11 minutes, Mac Hong Quan and Vu Minh Tuan of the Vietnamese side failed to convert any of them into a goal.

In the 21st minute, the Emirati men rose to a 1-0 lead thanks to a shot by striker Alkatheeri. Getting a long pass from his home field, he sped up and dribbled the ball past the center backs of Vietnam and slotted it to the low corner of the Vietnamese box.

Vietnam booked a place in the last-16 round as Group H leaders with all two wins over Iran (4-1) and Kyrgyzstan (1-0) in the group stage, whereas the UAE advanced to this knock-out round as Group G runners-up, after India.

In the 61st minute, UAE striker Al Ahbabi controlled the ball and dashed down the right flank before crossing a high pass to defender Almeqbaalli, who chose the right position to head home the second goal for his team.

One minute later, midfielder Alyssai headbutted the back of the neck of Vietnamese forward Mac Hong Quan and was thus booked a red card. Moments earlier, Quan fouled midfielder Waled Husain in a disputed situation.

In the 87th minute, Vietnam shortened difference to 1-2 by a shot of midfielder Nguyen Huy Hung. After the UAE defenders missed catching the ball, Hung received it in his rivals’ box and immediately blasted a flying shot with his left leg, sending the ball to the lower part of the bar of the goal frame.

Vietnam began pushing up their formation in the hope of leveling the score, especially after their opponents had Alyssai sent off.

But in the last minute of the match, the UAE fixed the result at 3-1 following efforts by Al Ahbabi. With just a long pass to split the Vietnamese formation being pushed up high, Al Ahbabi dribbled the ball into the box and faced Vietnamese goalie Buu Ngoc one-to-one.

He ran past the failing keeper with the ball before easily kicking it into the empty net.
