(VOV) -Top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh on January 20 lost to strong Malaysian rival Goh Soon Huat at the men’s singles first-round match of the Malaysia Masters at the Spice Arena in Penang.
Minh faced ferocious opposition from the very beginning, losing the first set 21-8. He fought back hard in the second set to a draw at 5-5 before Goh Soon Huat took control and maintained a 3-point advantage until the end to take the set at 21-16.
On the same day, Trang, world No 53, was also knocked out by Hsu Ya Ching of Chinese Taipei in the first match of the women’s singles event with the score of 0-2.
Malaysia Masters is part of the BWF Grand Prix Gold Series, which presents US$120,000 to the winners.
