The Vietnam Film Festival will be held as part of the activities of the Vietnam Year in France, in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The festival will take place in Saint Malo and include Vietnamese flicks made during the past two decades.

The movies are centered on important historical events, Vietnam’s film industry, as well as the development of the two countries’ relations.

Some of them have won prizes at international film festivals.

Moreover, a number of acclaimed films about Vietnam made by French directors or overseas Vietnamese directors in France will also be screened during the event.

Documentaries will also be shown, besides a series of cartoons created by renowned Vietnamese director Ngo Manh Lan such as “‘Chuyen Ong Giong” (Giong’s Story) and ”Meo con” (Kittens).

All movies will be screened under the three main topics, namely war and history, love and family, and France-Vietnam.

The Vietnam Film Festival will be organized by French media company Iriscommsex, the Cinema Department under Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the French Embassy in Vietnam.

Vietnam and France established diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level in December 1973.

Last year, a series of French cultural events took place in Vietnam within the framework of the France Year in Vietnam.

This year, Vietnam expects to put on more than 100 events to promote Vietnamese culture during the Vietnam Year in France.
