PANO – Vietnam’s tourism ranks 40th among 184 nations worldwide in terms of direct contribution to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), as quoted from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC)’s annual report.

The report stated that in 2015, Vietnam’s tourism directly contributed VND 279,287 billion to the country’s GDP (equivalent to 6.6%). The sector’s overall contribution to the GDP, including direct and public investment, is VND 584,884 billion (accounting for 13.9% of GDP in total).

The sector also created 2,783,000 direct jobs (5.2% of the country’s jobs), and 6,035,500 indirect jobs, accounting for 11.2% of total national employment.

The report also said the export value from visitors reached VND 213,389 billion (5.6% of total exports), and investment for travel & tourism reached VND 113,497 billion, accounting for 10.4% of total investments in 2015.
