Fishery protection force makes its debut

(VOV) – The central city of Danang on April 15 hosted a ceremony to launch the Vietnam fishery protection force in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai along with leaders from several ministries and agencies.


The establishment of the force aims to ensure law enforcement of sea fisheries, and the basis for the management and exploitation, protect aquatic resources sustainably, and ensuring the safety of people and facilities operating in this area.


The force is required to perform patrol function, control, detect, deal with law violations and conduct fishery inspection on the waters of Vietnam, thus helping fishermen assure production and aquatic resources and engage in the protection of national sovereignty over the waters.

The fishery protection force includes Fisheries Protection Department (FPD) (headquartered in Hanoi) and 4 other departments which are tasked with patrol, inspection, control and settlement of legal violations on the Vietnamese waters. .


Speaking at the launch ceremony, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai described the establishment of the force as an event of great significance to ensure the law enforcement of sea fisheries as a basis for management, exploitation and protection of fishery resources sustainably.


Hai asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) in collaboration with ministries, sectors and localities to thoroughly grasp the Party Central Committee’s resolution on directing the fishery protection force in performing its duties according to law.


The Deputy PM asked the MARD to work hand in hand with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Planning and Investment to build mechanisms and policies aimed at ensuring the conditions for the fishery protection force’s operations and submit master plan for fishery protection force development by 2020 and orientation to 2030 to the Prime Minister for approval soon.
