European tour: U19 Vietnam 2 – 4 U19 Birmingham

(VOV) – Vietnam lost 2-4 to Birmingham in their last friendly match in the UK as part of their European tour on March 20.



Strata Marketing Group that sponsors the Vietnamese team’s tour arranged the clash against Birmingham after U19 Wolverhampton cancelled their scheduled match.


Vietnamese players surprised their hosts at the start of the match, with Cong Phuong opening the scoring from a free kick in the penalty box on 12 minutes.


Four minutes later right winger Van Son slotted in from a pass set up by his team mates, extending Vietnam’s lead.


Birmingham players produced counter-attacks and their efforts were awarded on 22 minutes, with George McGee narrowing the scoring.


In the second half, Birmingham continued dominating the game and they earned an equaliser by Liam Truslove.


A Vietnamese defender made an own goal on 87 minutes and Reece Brown scored the last goal in the extra time, sealing a 4-2 win over Vietnam.


On March 21, Vietnamese players flew to Belgium, and their first opponents will be JMG Academy Belgium.


After Belgium, they will play other friendly matches in the Netherlands before returning to Vietnam late next month.
