Cruise ship on fire in Ha Long Bay VietNamNet Bridge – At 10.30am on February 18, a cruise ship of the Bai Tu Long Hung Nguyen Company Limited was on fire during its test trip near the Ti Top Island in Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh Province.

The captain and staff on board were rescued by a nearby cruise ship. However, the ship sunk, causing damage of about VND1billion ($50,000).


According to the Quang Ninh Port Authorities, this ship was not licensed for operation in the Ha Long and Bai Tu Long Bays due to its failing to meet the criteria on safety.


The ship owner is cooperating with the relevant forces to salvage the vessel.


According to information on the website of Bai Tu Long Hung Nguyen Company, this firm operates seven timber ships named Bai Tu Long Junk and White Dolphin Cruises (with 2 or 10 cabins each).


The vessel in distress – White Dolphin – has four rooms.
