VietNamNet Bridge – A 10-story parking center which can hold 1,000 cars and 800 motorcycles was inaugurated on Saturday in the center of Ho Chi Minh City.
The garage is located at No. 326, Vo Van Kiet Road, District 1, with a total area of more than 32,000 square meters. It includes nine floors for parking and a ground floor for vehicle maintenance and car wash services. The VND570 billion ($24 million) project was developed by Samco.
To carry cars to the upstairs floors, the building is equipped with five elevators for vehicles. An additional three are for passengers. An automatic fire alarm system and surveillance cameras are connected to a central control room to monitor the entire operation in the garage.
Mr. Tran Quoc Toan, CEO of Samco, says the long-term parking fee is VND2 million ($98) per month for a car. For short-term parking, the charge is VND20,000/hour for a car and VND4,000-5,000 per day for a motorcycle. Tramcars are provided to shuttle customers from the parking lot to other sites in HCM’s center.
According to the HCMC Department of Construction, of the 79 tall buildings in downtown HCM City, only 14 have enough room for all the vehicles, 59 lack sufficient space for parking and 6 have no parking area whatsoever.
The latest statistics from the HCM City Department of Transportation also indicate that the city has nearly 600,000 cars, with thousands of additional cars from outside provinces entering the city every day, so that the demand for parking space has become increasingly urgent.
At present, underground parking projects in HCM City still remain on paper.
Recently, the HCM City People’s Committee asked the Ministries of Transport and Finance to approve its preferential policies for parking projects, to encourage businesses investment from now to 2020.
