Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Visits Dinh Vu Industrial Zone

Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Johan Vande Lanotte, accompanied by representatives of the Belgian Ministry of Economy, visited Dinh Vu Industrial Zone (DVIZ) in Haiphong City. This was part of his official visit to Vietnam in early 2014.


At the witness of the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister, Haiphong People’s Committee and Dinh Vu Industrial Zone Joint Stock Company signed the a memorandum of understanding (MoU). Accordingly, the Haiphong People’s Committee agreed in principle to allow Dinh Vu Industrial Zone Joint Stock Company and its stakeholders to expand investment for an industrial zone in Cat Hai area with investment scale similar to that of DVIZ. This MoU will accelerate the implementation of agreements between the Haiphong People’s Committee and Rent-A-Port Company stated in the MoU signed on January 17, 2013 in Brussels, Belgium. The government of Haiphong City appreciated the close cooperation of Belgian partners for the success of DVIZ project as well as the efforts and contributions of Dinh Vu Industrial Zone Joint Stock Company in industrial zone infrastructure development and investment promotion.


DVIZ project is one of the most successful investment projects of Belgium in Vietnam. Many companies of different industries have explored investment opportunities in DVIZ.


As of late 2013, DVIZ attracted 52 projects with a total investment of US$2.2 billion. DVIZ is a reliable manufacturing and distributing base for investors from many countries, including 11 Japanese companies like Bridgestone. In 2013, Bridgestone decided to double its initial tyre production scale of the plant in DVIZ. In 2013, the zone housed nine new investment projects worth US$800 million. It is expected to draw US$150 million of investment capital in 2014. DVIZ is invested and operated by local authority and a foreign partner, led by major shareholder Rent-A-Port.


Partners are committed with long-term development strategies. The success of Rent-A-Port Company asserts attractive investment opportunities in Vietnam.
