5-star ship brings 600 foreign visitors to Phu Quoc A 5-star cruise ship, the MS Europa 2, has brought about 600 travelers and a crew of 400 from Europe to Phu Quoc Island in the southern Vietnamese province of Kien Giang.

They arrived on the island on Monday morning. They were welcomed by the leaders of the island district, who offered flowers to the visitors, the first international tourists to visit the island by sea in 2014.

The ship is anchored 2 km offshore and all travelers on board were taken to the Duong Dong passenger wharf safely by local tourism company Ngoi Sao Bien JSC.

Saigontourist Travel Service Co Ltd later arranged for the tourists to visit tourist sites around the island.

On the afternoon of the same day, all the travelers returned to their ship to continue their journey at sea.

On December 24, 2013, the same ship carried 550 international visitors from European countries to Phu Quoc for Christmas.

Dinh Khoa Toan, deputy chairman of Phu Quoc District People’s Committee, said that in the near future, visitors to the island by sea will be offered better services once the service center at the Duong Dong passenger port has been upgraded.

The upgrade is being carried out by Ngoi Sao Bien JSC at a cost of about VND6 billion (US$283,000) and is expected to be put into operation in June 2014, Toan said.
