NDO – Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism presented the medal ‘For the Cause of Culture, Sports and Tourism’ to Head of the Wallonie-Bruxelles delegation in Vietnam, Christian Bourgoignie at a ceremony held in Hanoi on July 9.

The diplomat was honoured for his contributions towards strengthening cultural co-operation between Vietnam and Belgium’s French speaking community.

During his mission as Head of the Wallonie-Bruxelles delegation in Vietnam from 2012 to 2015, he worked closely with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) to successfully carry out cultural projects as well as activities promoting friendship and co-operation between Vietnam and Wallonie-Bruxelles in cinema, fine arts, museums, music, contemporary dance art and sculpture.

Bourgoignie also coordinated with the MCST, the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), the European Union (EU) and the Association of European Cultural Institutes and Embassies to orgainise cultural and art activities in the as part of the Francophone Film Festival, the European Film Festival, the International Documentary Film Festival, the European Music Festival, the Hanoi Sound Stuff Festival, Hue Festival, the Monsoon Music Festival and the Asia-Europe Contemporary Dance Festival.

In addition, he made practical contributions to Vietnam’s literature, museums, painting, performing arts and cinema. He often invited Vietnamese artistes to perform in Belgium and helped artistes from Belgium’s French speaking community and Vietnam to exchange, share experiences and perform together.
