The number of passengers travelling on the maritime route between Ly Son island and Sa Ky Port in the central province of Quang Nam enjoyed a sharp increase after Tet. Each day sees about 2,500 to 3,000 passengers travelling from Ly Son island to the mainland.
This year, six high-speed vehicles have been put into operation on the Sa Ky-Ly Son route to transport passengers from the mainland to the island and vice versa. With use of the high-speed boats, the journey only takes between 30 and 35 minutes , whilst previously the journey had taken over an hour.
The management board of Ly Son island has co-ordinated its efforts with relevant agencies to increase the number of boat services and to ensure the safety of passengers.
Huynh Cong Tri, director of the Management Board of Ly Son port, said at the beginning of each day there are about 22 vehicles ready to transport passengers from Ly Son to the mainland every 30 minutes.
