Speaking at the closing ceremony, Vu The Binh, Vice-Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association and head of the organising board, said that with assorted activities welcomed by businesses and customers, this year’s event helped promote the prestige of the Vietnam International Travel Mart, making it a major event of Vietnam’s tourism.
Under the theme, “Hanoi – Destination for Vietnamese Tourism”, the event featured 672 travel businesses from across Vietnam, and 25 foreign countries and territories around the world.
A major tourism stimulus programme on offering 150,000 low-cost air tickets and 20,000 package tours at reasonable prices was launched at the event, bringing in around VND 212 billion (US$ 9.34 million) to participating travel agents.
Eight seminars and a culinary festival introducing street food from nine countries, including Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Italy, the Philippines, the US and Vietnam, also took place at the event.
At the closing ceremony, the organising board presented prizes to top 10 outbound tourism businesses, and outstanding businesses with the most impressive booths, and those earning the largest revenue from their tourism stimulation activities during the mart.
VITM 2017 was organised by the Vietnam Tourism Association, in collaboration with the Hanoi People’s Committee and Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, and the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism.
