Hanoi: developing comprehensive tourism to attract more tourists

The event is under the framework of the Vietnam International Travel Mart 2017. Almost management agencies, enterprises consider that despite remarkable development, Hanoi’s tourism has not met its potential, the capital city needs comprehensive tourism product development to lure more tourists.

Hanoi has more than 5,000 historic cultural relic sites, including those recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) like the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long and a system of 82 stone steles at the Temple of Literature 1,350 craft villages and various non-tangible cultural heritages. However, the city lacks international-scale entertainment zones and typical tourism packages to compete with neighbouring countries.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Director of TransViet Tourism Company Nguyen Tien Dat suggested that the the Capital city should organize more cultural activities to walking areas around Sword Lake, such as: encouraging local people to wear Ao Dai (traditional long dress), organising Ao Dai shows, organizing exhibitions of photos, vehicles and costumes of Hanoians in different periods and so on.

According to General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Van Tuan, Hanoi should create new products and renew available resources to turn Hanoi into a high-quality destination. Additionally, the tourism sector of the city also need to strengthen their investment in infrastructure and human resource to revitalise tourism sites like Hanoi’s Old Quarter, Sword Lake and eco-tourism sites, he added.

Chairman of the Hanoi Tourism Association Nguyen Quang Lan proposed the city to build one to two international-scale entertainment zones and zone off key tourism areas like Malaysia did. In reply, the city leaders agreed to support enterprises, organisations and individuals to develop tourism in the city. On the occasion, Hanoi signed tourism cooperation with Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Son La, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh provinces.
