Hue Festival 2014 attracts thousands of visitors – Festivals – Travel

The Hanoitimes – Tens of thousands flocked to the highly anticipated opening ceremony of Hue Festival 2014 opened on Saturday night at the citadel`s Noon Gate Square. The festival opened with performances from 65 international art troupes from 38 countries and territories from Asia, Europe, America and Africa.

The opening, a spectacular mix of colourful music, song and dance performances, saw the presence of dignitaries and journalists from around the globe including Vice Chairman of the Lao National Assembly Saysomphone Phomvihane, ambassadors, diplomats, and representatives of ministries, agencies and localities in attendance.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed the Vietnamese culture plays a pivotal role in bolstering socio-economic development and the impetus for projecting the country towards a more democratic and civilized society.

Festival goers also had the opportunity to enjoy a special art performance by an ensemble of over 1,000 artists from five continents from around the globe.
Visitors were impressed by Vietnamese folk songs and amateur singing, as well as outstanding performance by art troupes from China, Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and France.
On this occasion, an international kite festival was also held, attracting many artisans from all three regions of Vietnam – the north, the central and the south.
The fair is also an activity of this year’s national trade promotion programme. As many as 350 enterprises from 26 cities and provinces nationwide are taking part in an international trade fair. The fair is considered a good chance for businesses to promote their products and services, and seek partners, while contributing to raising public awareness of prioritising Vietnamese products.
A conference exploring opportunities for enterprises in economic integration and connectivity will also be held as part of the event.
