Hanoi Times – The Embassy of Canada in Hanoi today October 24 announces that a “Festival of Canadian flavors” will be held in Hanoi from November 7-14, 2008 at the SofitelPlazaHanoi hotel, Thanh Nien road.
This special event will feature tender Canadian beef as well as a variety of delicious Canadian seafood and robust wines, and Canada’s famous “ice wine”. The November 6th launch of the Festival will welcome representatives from the hotel, restaurant and food industry as well as the local media.
According to newly-arrived Ambassador Deanna Horton, this culinary event to offer a taste of Canada to Hanoi, as well as to help celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Vietnam.
Moreover, Canadian chef Derek Furlani is coming to Vietnam from his speciality restaurant in Hong Kong as the guest chef for this Festival.
During this event, food and wine lovers will be able to savor the rich flavors and textures that make up the dynamic Canadian culinary landscape. Epicures will be able to revel in award winning “Ice Wine” from Canada, considered the finest iconic dessert wine of the world.
“The fresh air, clean waters and fertile soil of Canada make for delicious, healthy ingredients and wine that we hope will become part of modern Vietnamese fine dining culture and lifestyle”, said Ambassador Horton.
Canada is one of the foremost maritime nations on the planet, boasting the world’s longest coastline (244,000 km) as well as one of the world’s most valuable commercial fishing industries, worth more than $5 billion a year.
The country exports 80 per cent of its fish and seafood production. Lobster, crab, Atlantic salmon, scallop, oyster, geoduck are major products for export.
