Thailand, Vung Tau eye tourism cooperation

The Imperial Hotel in the coastal city of Vung Tau in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and the Royal Thai Consulate General in HCMC last week hosted an event to sound out and promote potentials in tourism cooperation between Thailand and Vung Tau.

The event was part of the effort initiated by the Imperial Hotel to introduce attractive travel destinations to tourists from Thailand to Vung Tau and vice versa.

Nguyen Huu Tho, chairman of Vietnam Tourism Association, said that Vung Tau has four targets between 2020 and 2030 to develop sea tourism, to become a hub of tourist boats and cruises, to be a MICE destination and to be an education and training center for the human resource in tourism.

Tho added that Vung Tau together with Dalat and provinces in the central coast of Vietnam have been favorite destinations for tourists from the northeastern of Thailand.

Vietnam’s tourism sector and Vung Tau authorities are also seeking to bolster cooperation with Thailand in human resource development, and to search for more opportunities with travel agencies and airlines to bring more guests to the locality.

The event also attracted representatives from Thai media who highly evaluated Vung Tau for its seafood and landscape.

Thai consul general in HCMC Ureerat Ratanaprukse said that Vung Tau with its natural beautiful landscapes and cultural touches has a lot of potentials in tourism development. The consul general also showed her interest in Con Dao Island off Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, a pristine destination with stunning beaches and landscapes that need to be promoted to tourists.

Mai Ngoc Thuan, party chief of Vung Tau City, told the event that the locality has a strategy to create a new image of the city with friendly and hospitable people and services to help promote local tourism sector.

In the framework of the event, the organizers also hosted a Thai cooking event featuring two Thai chefs Papasamon Vejchaki and Najaya Mekrawee and a gala dinner with exotic experience of culinary art of Royal Thai cuisines at the newly launched La Sirena restaurant in Vung Tau City.

The activities were aimed to strengthen tourism cooperation among regional countries. It is expected to be a great opportunity for these countries to share relevant expertise, diversify products and services as well as to set improve quality for tourism of the region.
