Ban Flower Festival in Dien Bien to take place from March 11-14
The Hanoitimes – The Ban (Bauhinia variegate) Flower Festival is scheduled to be held from March 11-14, 2017 in the northwestern province of Dien Bien, according to the provincial People’s Committee.
The festival will include a myriad of activities such as exhibitions of ethnic groups’ culture, rituals, traditional music performance shows, books, and tourism products, in addition to sports competitions and folk games.
The highligh of the Ban Flower Festival 2017 is a Miss Ban Flower contest that is expected to attract the participation of contestants from eight northwestern provinces, namely Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Son La, Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, and Ha Giang.
Organised in 2013 for the first time, the Ban Flower Festival 2017 aims to promote Ban flower, a feature of Dien Bien province and the northwestern region, and boost local tourism.

The event is also part of activities for the Year of National Tourism 2017, themed “Colours of the Northwestern Region”.
The festival was first held in 2014 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory.
The annual event aims to promote the unique culture of ethnic groups in Dien Bien and turn the locality into a national key tourism attraction in the coming years.
The white and purple Ban flower, scientifically known as Bauhinia Variegata, is typical to the northern mountainous region of Vietnam and often in blossom in spring.
