The 12th annual Ho Chi Minh City International Travel Expo will showcase tourism in Vietnam and other countries in the Mekong region.

“The event will not only introduce the country’s iconic destinations, but also promote sustainable development through tourism,” Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said at the event’s opening ceremony on Wednesday night.

The ITE HCMC 2016 will be held at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center in District 7 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm between Thursday and Saturday.

This year’s event is themed ‘Five Countries – One Destination,’ and focuses on leisure tourism, luxury tourism, educational tourism, medical tourism, MICE (Meetings Incentives Conferences and Events), and spa & wellness tourism, according to the organizers.

Featuring over 280 pavilions manned by travel agents, airlines, and resort services, the expo is expected to attract over 30,000 local and foreign visitors, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism website.

On its last day, September 10, the exhibition will open to the public with internationally renowned performances, prize drawings, and a special travel fun fair, the event’s website said.

The three-day event is being organized by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the Vietnam Trade Fair and Advertising Joint Stock, and London-based event operator Informa Exhibition Pte Ltd.

Since the inaugural edition in 2005, the ITE HCMC has established itself as an integral tourism trade platform, both regionally and internationally.

The 2015 edition was hosted by 250 companies and brands, with 25,623 visitors attending from 32 countries, according to the organizers.
