Vietnamese athletes with disabilities have shattered 16 records at the 8th ASEAN Para Games, which is taking place in Singapore from December 3.

Vu The Phiet, head of the Vietnamese delegation, highlighted that the delegation targeted new records at the event, not the number of medals.

Vietnamese athletes have given stellar performance, especially the swimming and weightlifting teams, who even broke Asian records, Phiet said.

With the remarkable achievements, Vietnam could bag medals at the Paralympic 2016, he said.

The athletes have competed in nine events, including track-and-field, swimming, weight-lifting, badminton, chess, table tennis, football, boccia, and rowing.

As of 8.30 pm, Vietnam ranked fourth in the medal tally with 45 gold, 58 silver and 44 bronze medals.
