Ho Chi Minh City has announced two fireworks displays at Dam Sen, a theme park in District 11, and at the Saigon River Tunnel in District 2 to celebrate the new year.
The 15-minute shows will start at midnight on New Year’s Eve. All vehicles will have to stay at least 500 meters away from the sites.
The city has asked its culture department to work with tourism companies to attract private funding for the events, which will be broadcast live on television.
Four tons of fireworks are expected to be imported from France and China.
The fireworks plan means the city has returned to its traditional ground display for New Year pyrotechnic performance, after bringing the display to its highest 68-story building Bitexco for the first time earlier this year.
