The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will organize the national professional Cai Luong (national reformed opera) festival in Bac Lieu province on November 6th.
The festival is held twice every five years, thus creating a chance for artists nationwide to exchange their experience and discover talented youth to preserve and contribute to the arts of national reformed opera. The event is scheduled to attract about 25 theatres troupes, including seven private troupes, mostly from Binh Dinh and Long An provinces, Ho Chi Minh, Da Nang, and Can Tho cities. The festival will also include forums and seminars on the art in which traditional art and music researchers and critics will take part. Cai Luong originated in Southern Vietnam in the early 20th century, and blossomed in the 1930s as a theatre of the middle class during the country’s French colonial period. Cai Luong is now promoted as a national theatrical form. The national professional Cai Luong festival is scheduled to run until November 23rd./. |
