Ho Chi Minh City’s Planning and Architecture Department is seeking the municipal government’s approval to build a coffee shop in front of the famous Saigon Central Post Office, news website VnExpress reported.
Under the plan, the shop will be located on the right side of the façade of the 124-year-old Post Office building, next to Nguyen Van Binh Street.
It will cover an area of 500 square meters and will be around six meters in height.
Architectural details and the paint color of the coffee shop must fit those of the Post Office building, it said.
The Saigon Central Post Office, constructed between 1886 and 1891, became a hot spot for tourists as part of the city’s colonial core, which includes the Notre Dame Cathedral and several other French buildings on Dong Khoi and Ly Tu Trong.
