<p>Ngo Minh Dong, deputy office manager of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, said the confederation is raising money from trade unions and workers across the country to finance the project.</p>
<p>The goal of the project is “to pay respect and express gratitude to the Vietnamese people who were killed while trying to protect the country’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa; contribute to fostering national pride, solidarity and patriotism among the Vietnamese; and create a place for Vietnamese at home and abroad to commemorate and learn about the history of fighting to protect the country,” he said.</p>
<p>The confederation and Quang Ngai authorities have also launched a Hoang Sa monument design contest to choose the best design in terms of historical, educational and aesthetic values.</p>
<p>The project is planned to cover around 1.5-2 hectares.</p>
<p>Organizations and individuals at home and abroad can join the contest and should register their interest at the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, 82 Tran Hung Dao Street, Hanoi, or at its representative office in HCMC at 85 Cach Mang Thang Tam Street.</p>
<p>The organizer will receive entries from August 1 to October 31. After the best design is chosen, the confederation would invite contestants to visit Ly Son Island.</p>
<p>Currently, the confederation is working on a project to build Gac Ma monument on 2.5 hectares in Cam Ranh City, Khanh Hoa Province, also on the central coast. The project costs around VND100 billion (US$4,583), which is sourced from trade unions and workers nationwide, as well as local and foreign organizations and individuals.</p>
<p>The design for Gac Ma monument was also chosen in a contest held by the confederation. This monument commemorates 64 unarmed Vietnamese troops who were killed by the Chinese while they were protecting Gac Ma (Johnson South Reef) in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) islands.</p>

<p>The cable TV provider also has the right to broadcast some games of the UK’s Premier League in the 2015-2016 season every Saturday while the exclusive right to English Premier League matches on Sunday belongs to the pay TV channel K Plus. Customers can also watch other soccer games on SCTV channels like the South American Zone of 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification round, Copa Libertadores, Brazil League, and Scottish football tournament.</p>
<p>Tran Van Uy, general director of SCTV, said the company could seek to buy the broadcast right to Spain’s La Liga in the future.</p>
<p>Audiences can enjoy 68 games of Bundesliga, 380 games of Serie A, 288 games of Ligue 1, 47 games of FA Cup, 15 games of League Cup on SCTV11 and SCTV15 channels.</p>
<p>SCTV was established on August 27, 1992 by Vietnam Television (VTV) and Saigontourist.</p>

<p>Accordingly, the direct air route is expected to bring more tourists from Russia and ASEAN countries to Nha Trang city.</p>
<p>The Khanh Hoa Department of Planning and Investment was asked to instruct the company to follow necessary procedures to set up an enterprise for the opening of the route under the Ministry of Transport’s regulations.</p>
<p>Pegas Touristik is one the biggest international tourist company in Russia. Over the past few years, it has brought many Russian tourists to Vietnam through the flight route from the country to Cam Ranh operating from October 2012. So far, the company has carried about 0.5 million Russian tourists to Nha Trang with some 6 million reserved rooms./.</p>

<p>The 4th World Vovinam (Vietnamese martial arts) Championship opened at the Harcha Hasen Sport Complex in the capital city of Algiers, Algeria, drawing 200 participating contestants from 18 countries, including 22 contenders from Vietnam.</p>
<p>Attending the inauguration ceremony were Algerian Minister of Youth and Sports Mohamed Oueld Ali, Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria Vu The Hiep, Deputy Chairman of the World Vovinam Federation (WVFF) Nguyen Van Chieu and Chairman of the Algerian Vovinam Federation (FAVV) Djouadj Mohamed.</p>
<p>After 77 years of development, Vovinam has grown significantly. It is currently practiced in 12 African countries and has developed considerably since the African Vovinam Federation (AVF) was established in 2012. In Algeria alone, there are more than 22,000 practitioners in 30 of the country’s 48 provinces and cities.</p>
<p>Vietnamese Ambassador Vu The Hiep highlighted that the championship helps strengthen understanding and friendship between Vietnamese people and others while contributing to popularising Vietnamese martial arts to the world.</p>

<p>HA NOI (VNS) — Vietnamese tennis player Nguyen Mau Vinh Quang defeated Thailand’s Suohamit Sae-oui 2-1 to reach the U18 International Tennis Federation’s Group 5 tennis tournament quarter-finals in Da Nang on July 30.</p>
<p>Quang beat his rival, seeded number two, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 in the central city.</p>
<p>He is likely to meet number nine seed Park Ui-sung in the quarter-final.</p>
<p>Another Vietnamese player Tiffany Nguyen crushed Kokubo Haruka of Japan 7-5 6-3 to enter the quarter-final.</p>
<p>More than 100 players from countries and territories such as Japan, China’s Hong Kong, Germany and the United States are participating in the tournament, which ends on August 2. — VNS</p>

<p><strong>(Cinet)- Seminar on “measures to develop the Vietnamese fine arts market in amid integration” was held in Hanoi on July 30.</strong></p>
<p>Dominant discussion topics included State incentives for fine arts-sponsoring corporations and businesses, operations of museums and galleries, the spread of art in daily life, policies for private art collections and museums, market analysis from perspectives of art fair buyers and international experiences.</p>
<p>Addressing at the seminar, painter Vi Kien Thanh, head of Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition said that the seminar is an activity in a framework of scientific research about fine arts market in the country. Some contributing opinions from some representatives help to build some policies to develop fine art market in the country.</p>
<p>Vi Kien Thanh stated that the seminar should focus more on some issues such as establishing fine art fund; regulation of some agencies to buy some fine art works to display; building some fine art constructions to serve cultural life of people; reducing tax for enterprise of fine art activity; organizing some fine art fairs; establishing some centers to auction the work; establishing gallery association; ect.</p>
<p>Participants pointed out that the fine arts sector is losing valuable pieces to foreign buyers while art appraisal processes have yet to involve well-regarded experts, critics and museums.</p>
<p>Amid the current economic and cultural integration, the research and management of the fine arts market is an urgent issue, they said, adding that improving art quality and popularity is a major goal for the next 10 years.</p>

<p>The event was hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition.</p>

<p><strong>(Cinet)- Vietnam Farmer’s Union and Ministry of Cultue, Sports and Tourism approves for an associating program to enhance some activiites of culture, arts, family, sports and tourism in 2015-2020 with some basic contents as follows:</strong><strong>I. Purpose</strong></p>
<p>Increasing more quality and effectiveness of the associating program between the Union and the agency of culture, sports and tourism to build basic cultural life; implementing some criteria to develop culture at the commune to create more foundation for cultural develop in the countryside; building healthy cultural environment; keeping and develop some traditional cultural values; fulfilling a system of cultural mechanism to create more chance for cadre and peasant to participate into some activities of culture, family,s prots and tourism.</p>
<p><strong>II. Requirement:</strong></p>
<p>1. Increasing more awareness of cadres, members and peasant about position, meaning and role of culture, family, sports and tourism for agriculture and countryside to promote industrialization and modernization progress.</p>
<p>2. Organizing to train some basic knowledge about culture, family, sports and tourism for cadres and peasant.</p>
<p>3.Enhancing material infrastructure and cultural construction to promote some activities of culture, family,</p>
<p>sports and tourism.</p>
<p>4. Studying and proposing the Party and the State some policies to help peasant access culture, family, sports and tourism.</p>
<p><strong>III. Content</strong><em>1. Propagandizing and launching to build cultural life in the countryside</em></p>
<p>a. Task</p>
<p>– Continuing to implement content of program 127/CTPH-HND-BVHTTDL on September 18, 2009 and Plan No.960/KHPH-HNDVN- BVHTTDL ngày 22/12/2011;</p>
<p>– Increasing more awareness of cadres, members and peasants: Building cultural family; cultural village; building cultural life in the countryside;</p>
<p>-Informing some results, experiences and ways to build cultural life in the countryside</p>
<p>b. Approach to implement:</p>
<p>– Continuing to collect and edit document ” Making question and answering cultural life in the countryside”;</p>
<p>– Organizing some seminars, dialogues to build cultural life in the countryside for cadre, member, peasant in the living-people community;</p>
<p>– Enhancing to associate with some media agencies to post news, photo to build cultural life in the countryside.</p>
<p><em>2. Training course to build cultural life, sports in the countryside</em></p>

They often perform at local cultural houses and popular venues like the Municipal Youth Cultural House and the Labor Culture Palace. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy is a member of a Don Ca Tai Tu Club in Tan Phu district<strong>:</strong> “I love southern folk music and I love singing. I want to preserve the folk music of our predecessors. The preservation of this art form requires an effort from everybody”.</p>
<p>Getting enough money to maintain the club’s operation is the main problem of all singing clubs in Ho Chi Minh City. Le Van Loc is Vice Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Culture Center<strong>:</strong> “Don ca tai tu singers don’t sing for money. They sing with their friends and families in small groups to express their feelings. So it’s easy for them to give up singing. We need to work out incentives to support the singers”.</p>
<p>Many classes to teach Don ca tai tu singing have opened in Ho Chi Minh City. Tran Duc Nhan, an Executive Committee member of the Don ca tai tu singing club in District 1, says it’s vital to inspire young people to love this music because they play a key role in preserving and promoting it<strong>:</strong> “Artists of my generation are getting old and will not be able to sing much longer. So we want to teach and inspire young people”.</p>
<p>Ho Chi Minh City adopted policies and organized practical activities to attract young people to southern folk singing. The art form has been included in the school curriculum. The city has also launched a number of song-writing competitions for children. A collection of 60 Don ca tai tu songs for children will soon be introduced in the city’s schools. Nguyen Van Minh is Director of Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism<strong>:</strong> “It’s important to preserve this genre of music. We need to encourage young people to join our efforts. We have asked Don ca tai tu clubs and groups to focus more on teaching young people this genre of music”.</p>

<p>About 300 out of 1,500 tourists stranded on Co To Island due to bad weather have been transported safely ashore on Thursday evening on a naval ship in Quang Ninh Province.</p>
<p>The ship reached the island at 2:30 p.m. and brought the tourists back to Van Don District at around 9 p.m.</p>
<p>Do Van Tung, deputy director of Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said each tourist was offered light snacks, bus fares and VND200,000 (US$9).</p>
<p>Earlier, hotels on Co To had been ordered to reduce room rates for the stranded tourists, he said.</p>
<p>The ship resumed its mission today to bring other tourists from the island to the mainland.</p>
<p>Bad weather and rough seas have cut off the island over the past few days.</p>
<p>The rain has eased but boats are still banned.</p>
<p>At least 17 people were killed in floods and landslides triggered by Quang Ninh’s worst downpour in 40 years that began on July 26.</p>
<p>Material damage was estimated to be about VND1 trillion ($46 million). Many coal mines that play an important role in the province’s economy have been damaged.</p>
<p>Quang Ninh authorities are rushing to save a dam in Cam Pha Town that may collapse.</p>
<p>“Incessant rain and accumulated water put the dam at high risks of collapse. Then, it would be a disaster for nearby households,” said Dang Huy Hau, deputy chairman of Quang Ninh People’s Committee.</p>
<p>More than 300 residents in Cam Pha Town have already been evacuated to a local clinic after their houses were flooded.</p>
<p>According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, rains have reduced in northeastern provinces but are increasing in the northwest and north central provinces.</p>
<p>Colonel Vu The Chien, spokesperson of the National Commission for Searching and Rescue, said that 31,000 soldiers are on call for rescue missions.</p>

<p>Lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho was born on July 10th, 1910 in Ben Luc district, Long An province. He was Chairman of Consultative Council of the Republic of South Vietnam from June 6th, 1969 to April 25th, 1976 and Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam from July 4th to June 18th, 1987.</p>
<p>Lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho was born in Long An province. He was sent to France for studying at the age of 11. After 11 years, he returned home and worked as a lawyer. He participated in patriotic activities at that time. The lawyer was arrested many times by the enemies and kept in Saigon, Lai Chau, Hai Phong and Phu Yen. Lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho was elected to various important posts, including Chairman of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, Vice President of Social Republic of Vietnam, Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, Chairman of the Central Committee of the National Liberation Front.</p>
<p>The construction is invested by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the project began in July, 2010 on the occasion of the lawyer’s 100th birthday anniversary, covering around 1 hectare with a total investment of nearly VND78 billion, of which 50% came from the Central budget.</p>
<p>Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism promulgated Decision to rank the memorial zone of a lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho as national relics on June 29, 2015.</p>
<p>On this occasion, some leaders of the province took the Nguyen Huu Tho scholarship fund to help local poor pupils and encourage them to overcome difficulties.</p>
<p>The construction aims to mark the 105th birthday of late lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho (July 10, 1910) who was a great patriotic intellectual.</p>

<p>DENVER: Brazilian star Kaka scored one goal and set up another as the Major League Soccer All-Stars edged Tottenham 2-1 Wednesday in an international friendly featuring the North American league’s elite talents.</p>
<p>The MLS team improved to 5-3 in All-Star Games against English Premier League teams. Since the MLS squad began facing European clubs at the All-Star Game in 2005, the North Americans are 7-4, including a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich last year.</p>
<p>“We played an amazing game,” Kaka said. “Everyone will see in the news that the MLS team beat a very important team.”</p>
<p>Former FIFA world footballer of the year Kaka, who plays for Orlando, opened the scoring from the spot in the 20th minute, converting after Nacer Chadli was whistled for handball.</p>
<p>The All-Stars struck again in the 23rd minute with captain Kaka crossing for New York City’s former Spain and Barcelona star David Villa to finish emphatically.</p>
<p>Kaka was named the All-Star Game’s Most Valuable Player, an award he called “much more than I expected.” “I’m so happy for this night,” Kaka added. “Not bad for my first All-Star Game.”</p>
<p>Tottenham striker Harry Kane, denied twice from close range by MLS goalkeeper Nick Rimando, pulled one back for Spurs with a superb strike in the 37th minute, a day after his 22nd birthday.</p>
<p>Kane, who scored 31 goals in 57 matches for Tottenham last season, advanced on goal after collecting the ball when MLS defender Matt Besler fell.</p>
<p>The England striker then blasted a shot from the edge of the penalty area past the Real Salt Lake goalkeeper to trim the MLS edge to 2-1 at half-time.</p>
<p>An all-new set of MLS stars took the field in the second half while Spurs swapped generously as well, including introducing American defender DeAndre Yedlin in the 64th minute for a home-soil appearance.</p>
<p>Danny Rose sent a threatening cross from the left corner to the heart of the penalty area for Yedlin in the 86th minute but MLS goalkeeper David Ousted grabbed the ball to deny the late chance at an equaliser.</p>
<p>“It’s good whenever you beat these big clubs,” said Real Salt Lake goalkeeper Rimando. “It shows our league is growing and our players are getting better. We have the talent to win these big games.”</p>

<p>HAMBURG: Rafael Nadal eased into the Hamburg Open quarter-finals on Thursday (Jul 30) with a 6-4, 7-6 (7/2) win over Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic as the Spaniard continues to try and resuscitate his flagging season.</p>
<p>The top-seeded Mallorcan, playing the summer clay-court tournament for the first time in seven years, goes on to face fifth-seeded Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas, who battled past Jerzy Janowicz of Poland 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.</p>
<p>Nadal, the 2008 champion in Hamburg, extended his clay record in 2015 to 23-6 as he looks to add to his 46 clay-court titles.</p>
<p>“I think I played a good match,” said the 29-year-old. “Something that I am proud of today, very happy with, is my attitude and I’m very happy with the way that I played. I just need a little bit more consistency.”</p>
<p>Nadal has endured a tough year, losing his French Open title, getting knocked out in the second round at Wimbledon and seeing his ranking slump to 10, his lowest in a decade.</p>
<p>Cuevas, a semi-finalist in Hamburg in 2009, notched his 23rd win of the season as he defeated Janowicz in one hour and 34 minutes. Twenty of Cuevas’ victories in 2015 have come on clay.</p>
<p>It will be the second meeting of the season for Nadal and Cuevas after the Spaniard won in three sets in February in Rio.</p>
<p>“He’s one of the best players of the world, especially on clay,” Nadal said of Cuevas. “It’s a big match and I know I have to play well if I want to be in that semi-finals. I’m going to fight for it.”</p>
<p>Fourth seed Andreas Seppi beat German wild card Florian Mayer 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 and next faces Italian compatriot Simone Bolelli, who earned a 6-1, 6-7 (5/7), 6-4 win over Spain’s Jaume Munar.</p>

Vietnam to face Thailand in VTV Cup semi-final

<p>Vietnam will meet Thailand’s U23 squad in the semi-final of the International Women’s Volleyball Tournament – VTV Cup in the southern province of Bac Lieu on July 31.</p>
<p>In the other semi-final match, China’s Liaoning will meet the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).</p>
<p>Vietnam beat the DPRK 3-1 in their fifth match on July 29 to top the qualifying round with five wins in a row.</p>
<p>In that match, two key attackers of Vietnam Ha Ngoc Diem and Do Thi Minh couldn’t compete because of injury. Coach Thai Thanh Tung used a new line-up in the match, but they still played very well to beat their rivals 25-21, 28-26, 18-25, 25-19.</p>
<p>Captain Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa scored the maximum points of 19 for the Vietnam team.</p>
<p>Six teams, including five foreign teams, are participating in the tournament. They competed in a round-robin format to choose the top four semi-final teams.</p>
<p>The winner of the tournament will walk away with 10,000 USD, while the runners-up will receive 7,000 USD and 5,000 USD, respectively.-VNA</p>

<p>Completion of the 1.7ha complex in Thach Linh Ward, expected to cost VND80 billion (USD3.52 million) and for which planning began in 2010, is uncertain as it has yet to be declared for any particular cultural deity.</p>
<p>The temple, on which construction began in 2014, is designed to have a worshiping house, four gates and a semicircular lake.</p>
<p>Pham Tien Sinh, head of the construction work management board of Ha Tinh Province, said local authorities are worried the project may not be completed because of a lack of financial resources.</p>
<p>A DTi reader named Pham Thanh Hung said, “It is a great waste. It should be inspected by the government and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The investment of VND80 billion can be used for building houses for many poor people.”</p>

<p>The trip to Vietnam of Man City will certainly help promote the England team’s image in Vietnam and increase the number of Vietnamese fans. The more Vietnamese fans they have, the more royalties the club can get from the TV rights of the English Premier League.</p>
<p>One of the principles of sharing TV royalties of English football clubs is the direct broadcasting of their matches on pay television channels each season. TV broadcasters will air the matches viewers are interested in and the more fans FCs have, the more money they will get. Thus, Man City benefits a great deal from its trip to Vietnam.</p>
<p>On the side of the Vietnamese partner, Saigon Hanoi Bank (SHB), SHB’s boss Do Quang Hien said Man City’s tour to Vietnam was not completely flawless, but bringing Man City to Vietnam was successful. Through advertising the match with Manchester City, Hien’s company has become closer to its customers.</p>
<p>In the viewpoint of business, it was normal. The only regret was the chilly attitude of Man City players.</p>
<p>For the Vietnamese national team, they seemed to receive no benefits from the game when they were defeated 8-1.</p>
<p>Man City visited Vietnam for just over two days, and their presence was just “like a wind”. Obviously this FC is not helpful at all for Vietnam football. So to catch that light wind, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) should have organized the game quickly, instead of forcing the V-League to play hard to serve a commercial event.</p>

Dialogue to build Project of HCM museum

<p>The museum will belong a master plan of Park of ethnic culture and history in District 09 with a scale of 15.45 hectare. In the up-coming time, Department of Culture and Sports will have Document to propose HCM City’s People’s Committee to establish the Direction Board and relevant agencies to build Project for contributing opinions.</p>
<p>Building HCM museum is suitable with a displaying space and develops some cultural and historical construction.</p>
<p>As known, on May 08, 1997, the Prime Minister promulgated Decision No.298/TTg. According to Decision, the park of ethnic culture and history is total of 408 hectare. The Park contributes to reflect and introduce history and culture of Vietnam people, meet a demand to exchange domestic and international culture as well as bring benefits of economy, culture and society in the city and the region.</p>

Thanh dreams of gold in Japan at senior gymnastics championships

<p>HA NOI (VNS) — Vietnamese top female gymnast Phan Thi Ha Thanh has a chance at winning gold at the sixth Senior Art Gymnastics Asian Championships held in Japan today.</p>
<p>She faces strong rivals from North Korea, China, South Korea and Uzbekistan for gold in the women’s vault and balance beam.</p>
<p>Born in the port city of Hai Phong, Thanh won bronze for vault at the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.</p>
<p>The 23-year-old also won titles for balance beam at two World Cup events in Qatar and Bulgaria early this year.</p>
<p>She went on to win the most gold medals of any gymnast at the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore in June (individual all-around, vault and balance beam) and a bronze for floor exercise.</p>

<p>Tourists always choose Mu Cang Chai Township in the northern mountainous area of Viet Nam as a destination for home-stays.</p>
<p>Returning to Ha Noi last week from a three-day trip to Mu Cang Chai Township, Tran Chu Giang, a professional phuot (back-pack traveller on a motorcycle) said his six-member group had been touring the mountain sides and they were excited by the experiences of staying two days with people from the ethnic minorities.</p>
<p>Agreeing with Giang, I remembered our group trip a month ago. Five adults and two children reached the beautiful township in the evening. We were amazed to see terraced rice fields on the route as we prepared to go mountaineering through the beautiful township.</p>
<p>Terraced rice fields of Mu Cang Chai have been ranked as national relics by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2007.</p>
<p>We rented a pine timber stilt house in a Thai village, 1km from Mu Cang Chai Township. The clean two-storeyed house was built for home-stay tourism, so it was very comfortable. We stayed overnight on the second-floor which had bedrooms measuring 1.5mx1.5m and a living room equipped with a TV, a tea table, and two rest-rooms.</p>
<p>At present, the Thai village has five families who are in the business of home-stay services. Located at the centre of a peaceful valley surrounded by a pine tree forest and terraced rice fields, it is home to the Thai ethnic minority people who have a long-standing and diversified traditional culture.</p>
<p>Po Mu timber stilt houses in Thai villages are usually two-storeyed with a balcony.</p>
<p>The first floor is used for dining. We had dinner together and ate baked pondfish, baked leaf-wrapped pork, bamboo shoots, freshwater crab soup and salted eggplant.</p>

<p>Visitors preferred baked fresh sea-food for their meal, Xanh said, and added that guests praised his wife’s cooking.</p>
<p>Gastronomy in north-west Viet Nam in general, and Mu Cang Chai township in particular, is famous for the steamed glutinous rice (terraced field-farming rice), village-breed black chicken (a chicken weighs 0.7kg), and the village-breed pig.</p>
<p>Travellers to Mu Cang Chai Township should eat Tu Le steamed glutinous rice (Tu Le is a town and a beautiful stop for photographers on their Ha Noi-Mu Cang Chai route).</p>
<p>Our host at the stilt house where our group stayed for one night was Xanh, the slender middle-aged Mong man, deputy chairman of Mu Cang Chai Township People’s Committee.</p>
<p>The stilt house is located at the head of the village and was built in 2009, Xanh said, and added that the family decided to go into the business of home-stay tourism.</p>
<p>The hospitable host invited us for some bottles of cider and we had a heart-to-heart talk. The life of the ethnic minorities in Mu Cang Chai has improved with asphalt roads, and double-storeyed houses equipped with comfortable household facilities. Xanh has bought an Innova car to make travel easier for his family of six adults and three children.</p>
<p>We went around the village, and met people from the ethnic minorities we were very interested in, especially a middle-aged woman who was fluent in the popular Kinh language who invited us to see her house.</p>
<p>Two visiting children, aged 7 and 10, said they had a nice experience sleeping in a timber house, wading across a stream, picking up forest flowers and playing with the ethnic minority children.</p>
<p>Real Thai food: Travellers enjoy dinner with a home owner.</p>
<p>“My children were very excited,” their mother said.</p>
<p>“They exclaimed excitedly when they saw the sunset behind the mountain. They learnt so much about real life in the countryside,” she said.</p>
<p>Traditional cultural performances had not been organised regularly in the village, due to the lack of funds and organisers, Xanh said. Performances are primarily held during a festival or a traditional holiday.</p>
<p>In the near future, the Mu Cang Chai Township People’s Committee plans to organise a cultural performance during the weekend to attract visitors.</p>
<p>Xanh said the district was implementing a project to train the local ethnic minorities in the village on professional tourism that includes behaviour, gastronomy, and interacting with visitors.</p>
<p>Travellers flock to the beautiful township during the two main seasons, in May, and between late September and early October.</p>
<p>During each period, the township looks especially beautiful. In May, water from the falls and the mountaintop pours into the terraced rice fields and helps the people prepare for a new crop.</p>
<p>However, young people, among whom amateurs and professional photographers, prefer to reach the township between late September and early October. During the ripened rice harvest the terraced rice fields in Mu Cang Chai resemble a yellow carpet in a water-colour painting.</p>
<p>Back in Ha Noi, every member of our travelling group gifted a bottle of the forest bee’s honey to friends and family.</p>
<p>Tips for tourists</p>
<p>The price for a set meal for four people: VND150,000 per head.</p>
<p>For overnight stay: VND100,000 per head; Breakfast VND50,000 per head. However, for a group of 10 persons or more, there will be a discount of VND130,000 per head for a meal.</p>
<p>Ethnic minorities in Yen Bai farm in terraced fields on the mountainsides. When spring arrives, rainwater and water pour into the terraced fields. People call this period the watering season.</p>
<p>Mu Cang Chai District is located in the west of Yen Bai Province, 180km from Yen Bai City. From Yen Bai City, travellers can reach the district by bus or motorcycle.</p>
