Vietnam will meet Thailand’s U23 squad in the semi-final of the International Women’s Volleyball Tournament – VTV Cup in the southern province of Bac Lieu on July 31.
In the other semi-final match, China’s Liaoning will meet the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Vietnam beat the DPRK 3-1 in their fifth match on July 29 to top the qualifying round with five wins in a row.
In that match, two key attackers of Vietnam Ha Ngoc Diem and Do Thi Minh couldn’t compete because of injury. Coach Thai Thanh Tung used a new line-up in the match, but they still played very well to beat their rivals 25-21, 28-26, 18-25, 25-19.
Captain Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa scored the maximum points of 19 for the Vietnam team.
Six teams, including five foreign teams, are participating in the tournament. They competed in a round-robin format to choose the top four semi-final teams.
The winner of the tournament will walk away with 10,000 USD, while the runners-up will receive 7,000 USD and 5,000 USD, respectively.-VNA
