NDO – Work started today on two additional habours of Cua Lo Port in the central province of Nghe An which will be dedicated to container ships of up to 30,000 DWT.
Cua Lo Port covers 19.75 hectares in Cua Lo town containing a total of four habours. It was built in 1996 and has been in operation since 2003, receiving ships of a maximum of 10,000 DWT.
The fifth and sixth habours will be constructed on an area of 23.4 hectares in Cua Lo town’s Nghi Thuy commune, with their 450m long and 40m wide wharves capable of handling two 30,000 DWT vessels at the same time.
The project will cost a total of VND1.18 trillion (US$54.28 million), invested by the Tuan Loc Construction Investment Joint Stock Company, and is due to be completed next year.
Nguyen Xuan Duong, Chairman of the Nghe An provincial People’s Committee, affirmed the works’ importance to improving transportation capacity and attracting investors to the Nghe An Southeast Economic Zone, thereby boosting provincial socio-economic growth.
The construction of the two additional habours also aims to respond to the prime minister’s decision on turning Cua Lo Port into a national hub port serving mainly inter-regional and national socio-economic development, Duong said.
