The Vietnamese Embassy in Spain hosted a get-together on February 14 to welcome the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet).


A crowd of Vietnamese people from different cities and provinces across Spain were brought together.


Ambassador Nguyen Ngoc Binh acknowledged the Vietnamese community’s solidarity and mutual support to overcome difficulties caused by global economic crisis.


He confirmed the Embassy will continue to accompany the Vietnamese expatriates to build a community with higher level of solidarity and integration.

* The same day, the Vietnamese Embassy in Panama held a meeting to celebrate Tet.


Ambassador Nguyen An Duy highlighted contributions by the overseas Vietnamese to the country’s socio-economic development, stronger international integration, and raising the position of Vietnam in the world.


* Previously, the Vietnamese Embassy in Jakarta has become a venue for more than 200 Vietnamese working and studying in Indonesia in Tet, during which they introduce to foreign friends gastronomic culture and traditional practices of Vietnam, he said.


Vietnam and Indonesia share many similarities in history, culture and custom, he noted, adding that both countries experienced harsh struggles for national independence and are acting as active members of ASEAN.


The Vietnam-Indonesia ties saw an important milestone in June 2013 when they became strategic partnership, said the diplomat, adding that the two sides are eyeing great chances to boost their affiliation in the economy, trade, investment and tourism, especially when they join the ASEAN Economic Community.


Since the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines opened a direct air route linking Ho Chi Minh City and Jakarta, people-to-people connections between the two sides have been further promoted, with a surge in the number of tourists visiting each others’ country, said Thuy.


At the same time, the sound cultural coordination is also a foundation for Vietnamese and Indonesian strengthen their links, contributing to the building of a Socio-Cultural Community, added the ambassador.


* The Vietnamese Consulate General in Houston, the US state of Texas, organised a get-together on February 12 to celebrate the lunar New Year (Tet) festival.


The event brought together nearly 300 Vietnamese living in the state, who were joined by representatives from Houston administration and the US State Department. Addressing the celebration, Consul General Nguyen Van Hoa highlighted progress in Vietnam-US bilateral relations in 2014. Two way trade between the two countries reached 35 billion USD last year.


He called on the Vietnamese expatriates to contribute more to the ties between Texas State and Vietnam in the fields of economy, investment, education and health.


* On the same occasion, the Vietnamese Embassies in Germany and Egypt also carried out many activities to celebrate Tet.


Ambassador to Egypt Dao Thanh Chung asserted the State and Party’s consistent policy of considering overseas Vietnamese as an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation.


He also praised contributions of the overseas Vietnamese to the country’s development, stronger international integration, and raising the position of Vietnam in the world.
