Ho Chi Minh City Party’s Committee Secretary Le Thanh Hai, People’s Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan and People’s Council Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam yesterday attended a festive day to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) Festival with 600 workers from industrial and export processing zones at Suoi Tien Tourist and Cultural Park, District 9.
The leaders visited and wished workers and their children a happy new year and gave them presents.
That was the eighth year the program was hosted by HCMC Export Processing and Industrial Zone Authority (Hepza) for workers who have been unable to return hometowns for the lunar New Year.
On the same day, Hepza and HCMC Labor Union presented 1,215 workers with bus tickets to their hometown in northern and central provinces for Tet holidays.
Head of the Party Committee’s Propaganda and Education Department Than Thi Thu said farewell to the workers at bus stations and wished them a safe journey, and a warm and happy Tet with their families.
Elsewhere in the city the first buses of the union’s program taking workers to their homes in the Mekong Delta and the Central Highlands also departed from Tan Tao IZ, Tan Thuan and Linh Trung EPZs. The program is expected to drive a total of 2,350 workers home on February 14, 15 and 16.
Another 102 buses have taken 4,348 disadvantageous workers home on February 13, 14 and 15. These workers, with good work performances and enthusiastic in labor union activities, had not returned home for many consecutive years.
