The Overseas Vietnamese in Schwerin city of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state, Germany and its neighbouring areas gathered at the luxury Rabenstein Hotel to welcome the New Year 2015 on December 28th.


Representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy, the Caritas Mecklenburg charity and about 250 Vietnamese people in Schwerin and German friends attended the event.


On behalf of the Provisional Executive Committee of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Schwerin, Mr. Tran Van Hanh highlighted the significance of the meeting, which was an opportunity for Vietnamese people who are living or have ever lived in Schwerin to meet and share happiness and sorrows in a foreign land.


According to him, in spite of facing many difficulties, overseas Vietnamese in Schwerin and its vicinity had overcome all difficulties to build a stable life as well as always providing full care for their children who were born and brought up in Czech.


He also confirmed that Vietnamese in Czech always gave thought to the fatherland, where they have relatives, ancestors and memories of childhood.


Mr. Hanh also added the overseas Vietnamese community in Schwerin and its vicinity was not large but strong, because people always united, loved and supported each other, shared feelings on life. They had stable families and obedient children.


Besides, the Vietnamese community in Schwerin had always looked toward the homeland with charitable activities. In particular, the Vietnamese people there had raised about VND100 million to support soldiers on duty on islands.


Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Thao, First Secretary of the Vietnamese Embassy, appreciated the significance of the meeting.


She stressed that though the association had not been officially established; the overseas Vietnamese community had always united in daily life and activities toward the homeland. She also hoped that overseas Vietnamese associations in Schwerin would be soon established to connect and transfer the voice of the community to the local authority to meet the legitimate needs of them.


She also confirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy always accompanied with overseas Vietnamese in Schwerin in particular and Germany in General.


During the event, many art items were performed by Vietnamese people and children in the locality./.
