Nhan Dan Online – ‘Vietnam Days in the Netherlands 2014′ will be held in The Hague and Amsterdam between August 23-26 including a series of politic, economic and cultural activities to boost multifaceted co-operation between the two countries.

The event, jointly held by the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs in co-ordination with relevant ministries and sectors, will include exhibitions, art performances, seminars and field surveys, with the participation from both Vietnamese and Dutch enterprises and localities.

The opening night of art performances will take place at Lucent Danstheater on September 23 with the attendance of Dutch Government officials and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Mininster Hoang Trung Hai.

A Vietnamese business delegation to the Netherlands will also have a chance to take field trips to FloraHolland flower auction centre and Wageningen greenhouse horticulture.

Particularly, a Vietnam-Holland economic co-operation forum will be held on September 24 in The Hague, taking about various fields such as trade, investment, science and technology, agriculture and energy, among others.

The four-day event will also bring Dutch people into a Vietnamese space through exhibitions on the country and people of Vietnam, Vietnamese cuisine, publications on Vietnamese economy, culture and tourism.

On the occasion of the ‘Vietnam Days in the Netherlands 2014′, Nguyen Quoc Dung, head of the Foreign Ministry’s Economic Affairs Department shared information with the press on the event.

Q: Would you please tell us the reasons for choosing the Netherlands to hold the event? What is the message the organising board is sending to the Dutch people and the expectations for promotional activities in the Netherlands?A: ‘Vietnam days in foreign countries’ is an annual event held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in countries where Vietnam wishes to boost co-operative relations.

This year’s event in the Netherlands bears many special meanings. Vietnam and the Netherlands established a strategic partnership for climate change adaptation and water management in 2010 and strategic partnership for agriculture and food security in June 2014.

Two-way trade revenue recorded US$3.6 billion in 2013 and nearly US$2 billion in the first half of 2014. Many Vietnamese localities have established brotherhood with Dutch localities.

In the past, the first trade transaction activities between the two countries took place in the 17th century through a fleet of ships. In the past struggles for national independence and reunification, Vietnamese people had received much emotional and material support from the Dutch people.

Thus, the ‘Vietnam Days in the Netherlands‘ will not only inform the Dutch about the culture, nature and Vietnamese people but also deliver a message of a country wishing to deeply integrate into the world and make bilateral relations more practical and effective, meeting the potential and expectations of the two Governments and peoples.

Q: Would you please tell about the preparations for the event and detailed co-operative activities in the fields of politics, economics, culture and education to take place during the event?A: The preparations for the event have been carried out since mid-2013 and received response and close co-operation from the both sides. So far, preparatory work has basically been completed, which will bring Dutch people with a range of diversified, meaningful and artistic-value activities.

During the event, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister, Hoang Trung Hai will meet with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, co-chair the 4th meeting of Vietnam-Netherlands Inter-government Committee on climate change adaption and water management, open ‘Vietnam Days in the Netherlands 2014′ and deliver a speech at the Vietnam-Holland economic co-operation forum. Other cultural and art activities will also be included at the event.

We hope that the ‘Vietnam Days in the Netherlands 2014′ will leave Dutch people with lasting impressions about Vietnam, contributing to promoting bilateral relations in the future.
