(VOV) – Extending an 11-game unbeaten streak, chess master Nguyen Van Huy was crowned champion at the blitz-chess event at the Malaysian Open Chess Tournament.


Huy (elo 2519) is the third seed at the tournament, just trailing behind chess masters Susanto Megaranto of Indonesia (2557) and Cao Sang of Vietnam (2528).


Huy had an impressive run with eight wins and three draws.


Earlier, Le Tuan Minh (elo 2347) bagged silver at the standard event following nine undefeated games. He lost gold to Chinese master Zhang Zhong (elo 2608).

After the tournament, three Vietnamese masters Le Tuan Minh, Pham Chuong and Dang Hoang Son were inducted into the World Chess Federation (FIDE) international.


The 11thDato Arthur Tan Malaysia Open Tournament took place from September 15-21 with the participation of 150 players from 15 countries and territories.


The Vietnamese team included renowned masters Dao Thien Hai, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Cao Sang, Nguyen Van Huy and Nguyen Anh Dung.
