VietNamNet Bridge – Vo Van Thanh, 68, from Binh Dinh province, has been working as a knife-scissor sharpener in HCM City for more than five years. Every day, he walks through markets and residential areas to find customers. HIs income is low but it helps him to get by in the city.
His tools are simple: in addition to an old motorcycle, he needs only a grinder and several rocks. Thanh was previously a smith. It was difficult to make a living in his hometown so he moved to Saigon to become a knife sharpener.
Knife sharpening is a traditional occupation of his family, as Thanh’s son also does this job.
Every day, Mr. Thanh leaves his room to go the street to work from 7am to 6pm.
Thanh only wishes to remain healthy so he can continue earning a living and save some money for his future at home.Zing/VNN
