Nhan Dan Online – Tens of thousands of books will be introduced to readers during the 2014 Hanoi Book Fair, which will open on September 26 at Thang Long Royal Citadel.

The event is hosted by the city Department of Information and Communications on the occasion of the 60th Liberation Day of the Capital City, to uphold the reading habit among citizens, particularly the youth.

The fair will bring together 45 publishing houses from across the country, whose 112 booths will showcase their latest publications in various genres – children’s books, the latest literary works by Vietnamese authors, and translation works – and at discounted prices for readers.

Old and rare books about Hanoi and Vietnamese culture will be displayed at Dong Tay (East West) Bookshop’s booth.

During the week-long event, the organiser will call for donations of books for local libraries, schools, post offices and cultural houses in poor communes in Hanoi and Truong Sa island district, Khanh Hoa province.

Visitors to the fair will also have a chance to join talks and exchanges with authors of well-known book sets about Hanoi, including writer Do Phan, poet Vu Quan Phuong, 95-year-old cultural researcher Huu Ngoc, and Professor Phan Huy Le, who penned ‘Lich Su Thang Long – Ha Noi’ (History of Thang Long – Hanoi).

There will also be talks on topics that are expected to draw much interest from listeners, such as the country’s sea and islands, how to raise children, and Hanoi youngsters and their reading habit.
