“Lien hoan phim Duc lan thu 5 tai Viet Nam” (the 5th German Film Festival in Vietnam) opened on September 4 and will run until September 21 in Hanoi, Hai Phong City, and Thai Nguyen Province in the north; Da Nang City and Hue City in the central region; and Ho Chi Minh City in the south.

The event screens 10 films of different genres, including fantasy, drama, adventure, thriller, and comedy.

Most of the films – which reflect the daily lives of ordinary people and their family ties, homeland, cultural identity, personal identity, love, and friendship – have been recently produced and gained notable reputations.

Participants in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue City, and Da Nang City will have a chance to meet and talk with director Constanze Knoche and script writer Leis Bagdach, who jointly created the film “Visitors,” a 92-minute drama produced in 2012.

The 5th German Film Festival is scheduled to take place at Hanoi’s National Cinema Center at 87 Lang Ha Street in Ba Dinh District from September 4 to 11; at Da Nang’s Le Do Cinema, 46 Tran Phu Street from September 12 to 21; at Hue’s Culture and Information Center, 41 Hung Vuong Street from September 11 to 17; at Hai Phong’s Cong Nhan Cinema, 111 Cau Dat Street from September 5 to 14; at Thai Nguyen’s Learning Resource Center from September 15 to 20; and Ho Chi Minh City’s Cinebox, 212 Ly Chinh Thang Street, from September 5 to 12.

The festival, organized by the Goethe Institute, aims to portray the diversity of German cinema to the Vietnamese public, thus contributing to an enhanced mutual understanding between the peoples of Vietnam and the European country.

All films are screened with Vietnamese subtitles.
