$40mln hospital with helipad debuts in southern Vietnam

A US$40.1 million, 10-storey hospital with a helicopter landing pad on its terrace has been inaugurated in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho Sunday.

The Can Tho City General Hospital is seated on 2.48 hectares, with a total floor area of 50,000 square meters, in Ninh Kieu District.

This hospital has 500 beds, 18 clinical and five para-clinical departments, five functional offices, and a total of 600 medical staffs including doctors, nurses and other health workers.

Notably, the facility has a helipad on its roof, facilitating the reception or transfer of patients in emergency cases.

The hospital was designed by YOOIL, a South Korean design consultant, and built by the Investment and Construction Development Joint Stock Company (Investco), a Vietnamese business, under the supervision of the National General Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company (Nagesco), also a local firm.

Under a protocol signed with the Vietnamese Government, the French Government has provided an Official Development Assistance (ODA) worth €19.5 million (equivalent to US$25.08 million) for the hospital to purchase medical equipment and machinery, said Dr. Bui Thi Le Phi, director of Can Tho City Health Department.

The hospital is proceeding with bids to obtain necessary medical facilities within this year so that the hospital will be put into operation in early 2015, Dr. Phi said.

Upon operation, the hospital will significantly contribute to enhancing the quality and efficiency of medical examination and treatment for people in Can Tho and in the Mekong Delta in general, Dr. Phi added.
