The province’s deputy chairman Ho Van Nien was appointed to be the head of the department, called the Japan Desk, according to the provincial People’s Committee.

Members of the Japan Desk are local chief officials of relevant agencies and departments, and some Japanese experts and consultants.

Ba Ria – Vung Tau is implementing a series of measures to boost its attraction of Japanese investors in the fields of banking, finance, support industries, logistics, and healthcare.

“The establishment of the Japan Desk is meant to provide the essential investment information and initial support for Japanese businesses in studying the investment environment in the province,” Nien, the newly appointed department head, said at the inauguration ceremony.

“The Japan Desk will also help Japanese businesses operating in the coastal province deal with difficulties and disadvantages in their operations,” Nien added.

“Finally, it will carry out research in order to recommend solutions, measures, mechanisms, and policies to help lure more investment from Japan,” the chief official concluded.

Also at the ceremony, Nien represented the provincial People’s Committee in signing a memorandum with Mizuma Katsuyuki, general manager of the Asia and Oceania division of Japan’s Mizuho Bank, on a cooperative program looking to attract Japanese investors to the coastal province.

The Vietnam-Japan relationship has been elevated to a new height, and more bilateral cooperative programs will continue to be implemented, Japanese Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Nakajima Satoshi asserted at the ceremony.

With the new growth strategy of the Japanese government being to boost the overseas assistance for small- and medium-sized enterprises, the Japan Desk is the realization of such policy, the consul general pressed.
