Vietnam has seen increased tourism during the first six months of 2014.
Nhan Dan – Vietnam has so far welcomed more than 4.2 million tourist arrivals so far, marking a year-on-year increase of 21.11%, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).
Visitors from Hong Kong (China) topped the list, with the highest rise of around 140%, followed by Germany (over 115%), Laos (nearly 39%), China (over 37%), Cambodia (30%), Russia (nearly 30%), and Spain (over 25%).
During the first six months of the year, Vietnam served 23.4 million domestic holidaymakers, a rise of 6.9% year on year.
The tourism sector brought home over VND 125 trillion (over US$5.87 billion) in revenue, registering a yearly rise of 22.5%.
Despite the ongoing tension in the East Sea, major cities have witnessed a sharp increase in tourist arrivals. Hanoi welcomed 1.39 million guests, 17.4% more compared to the same period last year. Tourists from China to Hanoi increased by 30%.
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City received 2.1 million, a year-on-year rise of 10%.
The central province of Thua Thien-Hue also greeted nearly 1.6 million tourists, marking an increase of 21.8% in revenue.
Last year, Vietnam received 7,572,352 foreign tourists, a yearly rise of 10.6% over 2012.
Vietnam is among the top 50 most attractive tourist destinations globally, according to movehub, a website frequented by people who want to move abroad. Welcoming approximately 6 million foreign visitors every year, Vietnam ranks 41st on the list of the most popular countries in the world to visit.
