On June 17, Vietnamese singer Hai Chau officially released her single “Out of control,” which was jointly produced by Universal Music Group (UMG).

The single, which is one of the prizes given to the champion of the 2013 “Toi la nguoi chien thang” (The Winner Is…) contest, comprises new songs written by three Vietnamese composers including Duong Khac Linh, Hai Chau and Chau’s manager, Joshua.

“The Winner Is…” is not the first or only music competition whose prize is a working agreement with American music corporation UMG; other contests including Sao Mai Diem Hen (a Vietnamese singing competition) and Vietnam Idol also gave a similar contract as the grand prize.

However, the 21-year-old girl is the first contestant and singer to choose to accept the prize, as the winners of other contests often collaborate with their own team instead of working with UMG.

Hai Chau won the Vietnamese version of the German-Dutch singing reality show “The Winner Is” at the finale held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 10.

With her talented singing, alluring performance and strong personality, Chau won the contest and received a VND630 million (US$29,949) prize and a recording contract with UMG, the world’s leading music company.

“The Winner Is,” created by John de Mol, is a presentation of Talpa Media USA Inc. and Universal Television. On air since May 25, the show’s Vietnamese version, which is in its first year, gathered 64 contestants including established singers.
