Nhan Dan Online – The Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) held an inauguration ceremony on June 27 to hand over 300 houses for the poor in Binh Thuan province.
The housing project was funded by VietinBank for Binh Thuan province in 2013 with a total budget of VND9 billion (US$423,000). Each household was given VND30 million to construct houses of 30-60 square metres with a term of over ten years.
In addition, VietinBank also donated essential items for households with a total value of VND180 million.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Nguyen Van Thang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank, said that the support would motivate local governments and the poor to achieve better results in building modernised rural areas and improve economic development, as well as enhance material and spiritual lives.
Vice Chairman of Binh Thuan provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Tam praised the VietinBank’s support, saying that it was of great significance to the locality’s work in caring for the poor and social policy beneficiaries in the province.
To date, VietinBank has donated VND11.5 billion for Binh Thuan to build 310 houses for the poor, as well as sponsoring the construction of a boarding house and offering domestic utensils for students with disabilities of Phi Long Sand Painting Co. Ltd in Phan Thiet city, in addition to 60 scholarships for disadvantaged students in the province.
