city People’s Committee leadership has approved a plan on naming 24 new roads and streets. One of the most beautiful new roads in Hanoi will be named after General Vo Nguyen Giap.
On June 5, vice chairwoman of Hanoi City People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc signed a statement to submit to Hanoi City People’s Council on naming and adjusting the length of several roads and streets in Hanoi in 2014.
Earlier, Hanoi promulgated a resolution on naming and adjusting 26 roads and streets in nine districts in 2014. Of the 26 roads and streets, 19 will be named by placename, one by cultural historical reference and four by famous people’s names. Two roads will be extended under the plan.
Specifically, Vo Chi Cong road in Tay Ho district will start from Nhat Tan bridge, pass by the west side of the West lake (Buoi street) to the crossroads between Hoang Quoc Viet road and the To Lich river. It will be 4.5 kilometres in length.
Vo Van Kiet road in the districts of Me Linh, Dong Anh and Soc Son will start from Noi Bai airport to run to Thang Long bridge, and a further 12 kilometres.
General Vo Nguyen Giap road in the districts of Dong Anh and Soc Son will accommodate travel from Noi Bai airport to Nhat Tan bridge. It will be 12 kilometres in length and 70-100 metres in width.
The naming of new roads and streets will be considered at the 10th session of the Hanoi city People’s Council to be held in July./.
