Busan Mayor honoured with Friendship Medal

(VOV) – Mayor of the Republic of Korea’s Busan City, Hur Nam-sik was awarded the Friendship Medal for his remarkable contributions to boosting friendship and cooperation between the two nations.


Speaking at an award handover ceremony in Bussan on June 24, Vietnamese ambassador to RoK Pham Huu Chi hailed the Busan Mayor’s efforts in strengthening economic and cultural links between Ho Chi Minh City and Busan, thereby enhancing strategic cooperation partnership between Vietnam and the RoK.


Hur said it is a great honour to receive the medal and pledged his utmost efforts to further develop bilateral ties.



Under the leadership of the mayor, economic ties between the two southern cities of RoK and Vietnam posted rapid growth with last year’s trade turnover reaching US$2.2 billion.


1,800 out of 3,500 Korean firms operating in Vietnam have chosen HCM City as a good destination for their investment and business.


The cross-cultural exchange between the two cities have been expanded over the years with approximately 30,000 Vietnamese people living and studying in Busan and about 80,000 those from RoK living in HCM City.


Hur decided to set up Busan city’s representative office in Ho Chi Minh City in 2012 with a view to bolstering investment and trade cooperation between municipal authorities.
