First-ever film fair for young directors to run this afternoon

A film fair, held for the first time for young local filmmakers to exchange experience, is set to run this afternoon, May 17, in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 2.

The Fun Film Fair, to take place at 4.30pm today at Saigon Outcast, 188/1 Nguyen Van Huong, Thao Dien, a popular rendez-vous for local and foreign art enthusiasts, will give young filmmakers the opportunity to take part in a real film fair just like those in other countries.

According to the organizer, outstanding shorts selected from YxineFF, an online short film fest, will be screened at the fair.

Exchanges with filmmaking celebrities will also be held.

The free-admission event will also promise to appeal to visitors with a host of music and light performances by young artists.

In a similar vein, the 2013 version of “Marius“, a French comedy romance by director/ actor Daniel Auteuil will be screened at 3pm this afternoon at the Institute of Cultural Exchange with the French (IDECAF), 31 Thai Van Lung, District 1.

Tickets cost VND30,000 (US$1.5).

Based on a series of plays, which were themselves based on several novels, “Marius” is the first part of a trilogy.

The 2013 film is the remake of the film of the same name which was made in 1931 by renowned French director Marcel Pagnol. The original film is considered one of the prominent works during the 1930s, the golden era of the French movie industry.

The 2013 version stars Daniel Auteuil as Marius’s father along with Raphael Personnaz and Victoire Belezy as Marius and his girlfriend, Fanny.
