Recently, bringing the traditional sport games into school to create a healthy and useful playground for students has been well-implemented by Phu Yen Provincial Education sector, helping to arouse appreciating traditional values​​, foster pride to the nation for them.

In every schoolyear, the ProvincialBoardingSecondary School holds from 3 to 5 sport activities, creating playground for students. According to Mr. Le Hong Duy, the School Youth Union’s Secretary cum P.E teacher, as a boarding school for ethnic minority students, the school is very interested in organizing the activities of recreation, sports, training strength and creating a healthy playground for the students. Every time of sport competitions, seminars, camps, folk games and such competitive sports imbued with national identity as walking on stilts, crossbow, stick-pushing, tug, baggy jumping … are included in. He revealed: “When the sports are organized, students show great interest because they are closer, find it easier to play and create a joyful atmosphere”.

Not only the ProvincialBoardingSecondary School, but also many schools in the province have also organized traditional and folk sport competitions to attract student. Many schools organize games during break time, P.E class, after-school periods. Some schools hold games on the occasions of celebration, opening or closing academic school year… Despite different forms of organization, the general point is that students are fascinated in participating.

According to the statistics by Phu Yen Department of Education and Training, in the past 5 years, 300 schools in the province often organize the traditional sports competitions, put folk games into collective and entertainment activities. Head of Education and Training Division in Song Cau town, Mr. Le Minh Tho, let known, “The common feature of traditional sports, folk games to be deployed in school is simple, easy to play, less costly, easier for students to integrate into the games. The inclusion of traditional sports, folk games into school is practically meaningful in terms of helping students improve health and promote the unity, wisdom spirit”.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thuyen, Deputy Director of Secondary Education Division (Phu Yen Department of Education and Training), emphasized: “The dissemination and replication of putting the national sports into schools is essential, because it not only helps students get space, time of healthy and useful pastime, but also contributes to effectively implementing the movement “Building up friendly schools, active students”. Therefore, schools should promote it more to help students feel good and nice through each national sport, thereby, promote patriotism, training sports, improving health”.
