An eerie natural phenomenon happened Thursday in famous Ha Long tourism city in the northern province of Quang Ninh, in which the morning sky turned totally dark without any warning for 15 minutes.
In the city's Hon Gai area, the sky suddenly darkened from 9:00 am to 9:15 am this morning, causing locals to switch on the lights on their vehicles and at their homes.
The phenomenon drew such a huge curious crowd. Many took photos and instantly posted them on their Facebook.
From 9:15 am, the sky gradually became lighter and local residents’ daily activities quickly resumed.
Earlier, northern Hai Phong Province and some other places in Quang Ninh Province saw slight and medium rain.
By 9:00 am, as soon as the rain in those areas let up and stopped altogether, the phenomenon in Hon Gai occurred.
Nguyen Vu Thang, vice head of the Meteorology Station in the North East region, told Tuoi Tre that the occurrence may have resulted from large clouds.
It was very cloudy after the rain in Hai Phong and parts of Quang Ninh, Thang added, citing this morning’s indicators.
While the sky turned slightly dark in Hai Phong, it got absolutely grey in Hon Gai.
Some other experts attributed the phenomenon to a thunderstorm thickened with clods which “covered” the sun.
